The recent college un-enrollment was a wake up call. Billions of funding is wasted each year because less than 20% apply for scholarships. Proofread essays win scholarships because it allows students to recycle essay topics over and over again. ✍️

Students should write in a notebook their "Top 3 colleges" that they're interested in attending and include the total fee package, GPA required as well as the college testing score needed. 📓

Many enrolled college students are unaware of their bill for college. Here's a great way to have open dialogue with your student about the expenses for college (Tuitiin, Out of State Fees, Books, Dormitory, Meal Plan, Insurance, Application Fees, Parking, Living Expenses and the most popular one that many forget about is: Travel Expenses (car, gas, airplane, train, bus). 💰

Once you discuss what's involved with the planning, then the next question you want to ask the student is: How do you think we're going to pay for this each year? Help them understand the cost of living expenses including college. Please screenshot & show them this post. 👀

More students would stay enrolled to graduate from college the better they are prepared. Adulting is new to an 18 year old.

In 2025, Trump proposed a $64 million cut to federal funding for Howard University. Our HBCU's can nolonger afford to bring in Freshman without confirmed funding on Promissory notes. They need cash deposits to cover admission and housing. What we recently saw with Howard University to unenroll 502 Freshman will be a similar practice by many more HBCU's.

📚 The Freshman College drop-out rate is close to 25% nationally. Oftentimes this is related to "Funding & Focus." Back in March, I shared a post to remind parents as they prepared for Prom to put away $1,000 to meet the deadline of college admissions, room & board etc for Freshman year coming up.

I know parents want their children to figure things out, however adulting is new to students graduating from high school.
Many need reminders of saving due dates on a calendar. 📅
Many need reminders about applying to scholarships. ✍️

What we just saw in the news, is a clear example of why students who are financially supported by parents need "Parent Managers" to oversee emails and correspondence of what's going on.

Let me tell you about Luke. Luke loves his momma! He had lost his father to death many years prior to us meeting at Sunday School. He was his moms amazing helper at home and during doctors visits, as she fought through Breast Cancer twice.

Sometimes we never know what our young people go through; however this Adversity became the "why" for Luke. One of his favorite essay topics was: What is My Career Choice and Why? I remember him proudly sharing about scholarships he had received and his journey through college. I remember him staying in contact while in college. I also recall him reaching out to let me know that he was preparing for his application/ essay into Nursing School. His story was so powerful! I was so happy to proofread his essay before he submitted it to the Nursing School Department. I fondly recall the excitement when he reached out shortly to say "Thank You Ms. Sheryl!" I got into Nursing School.

Luke has loved becoming a Male Nurse. He encourages more students to consider this life changing career. His testimony along with volunteer work including internships made a difference in staying focused and pushing through while in college
