I actually continue to teach private music lessons in my home studio to about 25 students and parents a week. I understand the challenges we all face when it comes to teaching kids music because we know music is so healing, transforming and uplifting, but we don't know how to go about teaching it. How to we even choose the songs and fundamentals that go with it? I wrote a flute curriculum and a piano curriculum and I filmed so many great lessons for you, even some with my own children and my students, so you can see the lessons in action. What if music lessons could become part of your child’s childhood story, like my daughter Bella? She talks about the years we spent making music, walking in nature, learning songs, exploring, creating, and simply being together.
Now that she is all grown up and when i look at the confident, creative, beautiful young woman she has become, I’m reminded why I started teaching this way in the first place.
Music is so much more than learning an instrument.
It can nurture confidence.
It can awaken creativity.
It can create connection.
It can five a child a place to express who they are.
And sometimes, years later, you get to look back at your grown child and realize: this was never just about music.
That is at the heart of music makers.
I would love to invite a few more families into this little community of children and parents who believe childhood should be filled with music, imagination, nature, connection and joy.
