In Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, Svitlana moves between ordinary routines and the realities of war: playing with her cat, grabbing a cup of coffee, and coordinating repairs to homes and buildings damaged by missile strikes. Like the people she serves, she is trying to hold onto everyday life as the war continues.

What an energizing, thought-provoking start to week: our first CARE Solutions Salon with my partner board chair Richard Stengel and hosted by our long-time board member Glenn Hutchins. I so enjoyed leading the conversation with special guest Secretary Hillary Clinton and a diverse range of civic and governmental leaders, philanthropists, and private sector partners on building the case — and a lasting coalition — to continue bringing lifesaving aid to communities around the world.
We shared that tradition of being raised as Methodists taught us to do “all the good we can, by all the means we can…for all the people you can.” Hillary is such an inspiring example of living this every day.
Ava joined CARE’s Generation Green Project just after graduating from university. Ava believes lasting change starts by giving young people the knowledge and courage to create a different future.
In her greenhouse, Ava teaches kids as young as 5 years old about plants while deepening her own knowledge.

At 13, Heba was forced to flee Syria with her family and start over as a refugee in Jordan’s Azraq camp. Soccer became a connection to the life she had left behind—and a way to keep looking forward. Today, Heba is a coach with CARE’s soccer program, where she helps girls in the camp build their skills, confidence, and friendships.
Coaching a soccer team of girls in Azraq refugee camp, Heba says, “There’s always a goal that you have to pursue.”
