Duncan Kirkwood’s post is essentially a personal testimony about how attending an HBCU changed his worldview, identity, and confidence.
1. He starts with a confession
“Going to a Black college was stupid. At least that’s what I thought.”
He is admitting that before attending an HBCU, he believed many of the negative stereotypes about them. He thought that attending a predominantly white institution would provide more opportunities and that an HBCU might hold him back. He later realized that attending an HBCU was one of the best decisions he’s ever made.
