These invasive orb-weavers from East Asia have been spreading across the region for years. Females can grow impressively large (leg spans up to 3-4 inches), with striking yellow, blue, and black markings. They spin large golden webs that can quickly cover eaves, bushes, porches, and other outdoor structures.

While not aggressive or dangerous to humans, their webs can be a nuisance and they may compete with native spiders. Spiderlings are active now in mid-June, and populations build through summer into fall.
