Next up on the Monday Night Creative Music Series calendar at eyedrum art & music gallery is a double-bill with Toby Summerfield followed by Jeffrey Butzer’s Academy of Staring Daggers.

Summerfierld is a marvelously talented composer and improviser on guitar, pedal steel and bass who creates densely immersive ambient soundscapes. He has worked with Colin Stetson, Dina Maccabee and Bill Brovold; was a section leader for Rhys Chatham’s “100 guitars” performances; and leads the large ensemble Never Enough Hope.

The Atlanta-based ensemble The Academy of Staring Daggers features Ana Balka (violin), Ben Davis(saxophone), Fran lora (upright bass), Bützer, Mykal June and Matt Steadman (guitars) and Sean Zearfoss (drums).

Butzer says the Academy will play selections from an upcoming LP titled ‘Xionesco,’ material from recent concert performances, “and probably a Danzig cover with a guest singer.” Sounds like good noisy fun to me. – Doug DeLoach

Back in March, when Nancy Gaddy debuted ‘What's Going On – Tunes for Turbulent Times,’ the cabaret performance was a sellout. This Sunday, Gaddy returns to the Academy Theatre with an encore presentation of the revue.

An Atlanta-based actress, comedienne and singer, Gaddy has been performing for decades in clubs, theater, television and film. Reflective of the roiling inferno of current events, the ’What's Going On – Tunes for Turbulent Times’ program includes reimagined versions of songs by David Byrne, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Don Henley, H.E.R., Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, Laura Nyro, Roger Waters and others, punctuated by Gaddy’s compelling storytelling.

Accompanied by Andrew Fazackerley on keyboard, Steve Cunningham on guitar, Ramon Pooser on bass and Mike Hinton on drums, Gaddy draws from progressive Americana, roots, pop, jazz and soul to deliver an entertaining and poignant message.

In March, A Ca****la Books presented a book signing and film screening event at Tara Theatre to mark the publication of hip hop pioneer Fab 5 Freddy's autobiography, 'Everybody's Fly: A Life of Art, Music, and Changing the Culture.'

This time around, the venerable independent bookstore in Little 5 Points is hosting a similar event featuring another hip hop progenitor, Grandmaster Flash, whose tome, 'Birth of a Culture,' is now hitting the streets.

The Tara festivities will kick off with a conversation with Flash, followed by a screening of Charlie Ahearn’s 1982 film 'Wild Style,' which features hip hop luminaries including Fab 5 Freddy, Adam Horowitz, Lee Quiñones, Lady Pink, The Rock Steady Crew, The Cold Crush Brothers, Rammellzee. Grandmaster Flash will introduce the film.

The Fab 5 Freddy fandango in March was a blast. Anyone interested in the origins of the artistic movement that forever changed the global cultural landscape should be in attendance Friday night. -- DTD
