Next week, eyedrum art & music gallery’s Monday Night Creative Music Series offers up another program of freshly cut improvisational music. New York-based Tara Khozein (voice) and Gabriel Zucker (piano, synth, voice) push the boundaries of accompanied vocalized performance to create a special blend of ambient dreamscapes, edgy pop theatrics and electro-acoustic improv.
Organized by percussionist John Arthur, the Edgewood Ensemble includes trumpeter Roger Ruzow, saxophonist Ben Davis and bassist Bill Pritchard. Lots of folks will recognize the ensemble members as seasoned locals who have played together in various groups, most notably the 4th Ward Afro-Klezmer Orchestra. I can’t wait to hear what this all-star four-piece pack of jazz hounds brings to the party. – Doug DeLoach

Coltrane 100 is a year-long celebration of John Coltrane's appearance on the Earthly plane. Concerts, educational initiatives, reissue releases and other events marking the legendary saxophonist and composer’s birth (Sep., 23, 1926) are scheduled around the globe.
One such event takes place tomorrow at Eddie's Attic when Mike Walton leads his quartet in a performance of "A Love Supreme,” which is considered by many (including your correspondent) as Coltrane’s greatest achievement both as a composition and recorded work.
Hailing from Perry, Georgia, Walton was introduced to Coltrane by his middle school band teacher, Kenyan Carter. These days, Walton is a familiar figure on the local scene playing with artists such as Joe Gransden, Russell Gunn, Lil John Roberts, Jimmy Cobb and the late Malcolm Jamal Warner.
