Lazer/Wulf

SAT 9/19 — ATHENS, GA — Flicker Theatre

Beyond honored to spend the evening in celebration of old friends shadebeast and PALACES, and our own longtime love of Tennessee’s Generation of Vipers. This one’s a big deal on a personal level, and as with all acts of guitar for the foreseeable future, dedicated to Andy Williams. Crank the catharsis.

20 years ago this summer, when Sean and I had just met in college, we asked Andrew Williams after an show – whom we had never met before – what we should name our band. He closed his eyes for a moment and eventually whispered, “…Lazer Wulf.” “Like, the butcher from Fiddler?” “Hell yeah.”

Of course, he would go on to become The Butcher himself, and it’s hard to decouple that literally formative memory from every picture I see of his wrestling persona… or from everything cool that’s happened to us in the decades since he gifted us the gnarliest, stupidest band name possible.

If we’d ever thought about changing it, that time has officially passed. It’s an honor to have received it, and a tribute to the Butcher himself. “Hell yeah.”
