Join, and Unyte Senior Clinical Educator and occupational therapist Kelly Beins, OTR/L, RYT, for a rich exploration of clinical reasoning as both a structured and deeply human process.

Together, they’ll consider the important relationship between intuition and clinical reasoning: how clinicians can recognize and value their felt sense without mistaking it for certainty, and distinguish insight from assumption.

In pediatric practice, some of the most meaningful information isn’t spoken—or captured in an assessment. It’s expressed through movement, behavior, sensory responses and the therapeutic relationship.

But how can clinicians distinguish meaningful intuition from assumption—and bring that felt sense into a grounded clinical reasoning process?

There is a moment in therapy that many clinicians carry with them forever. It’s the day a parent walks into your office and, instead of sharing another story of exhaustion, looks at you and says: “I have my family back again.”

This was a real moment shared by therapist Taylor Hayden, MA, LPC-S, LCMHC, during our recent webinar, From Dysregulation to “Safe Enough”: Practical Strategies to Support Neurodivergent Clients. Taylor described working with an adolescent client experiencing severe ADHD and intense dysregulation. Daily three-hour meltdowns and violent outbursts had become the norm, leaving the entire family overwhelmed and exhausted.

But when the therapeutic focus shifted from behavioral compliance to nervous system regulation and felt safety, everything began to change. https://hubs.la/Q04m-2p20

It’s a small shift in framing. But it changes everything about how you show up.

When someone is overwhelmed, shut down, or checked out, pushing harder doesn’t open the door. Nervous system regulation does. That’s what listening therapies are built around: settling the nervous system first, so connection, regulation, and participation become possible.

What matters most isn’t just the data itself. It’s what those numbers represent: living proof of what’s possible. It means more breakthroughs. More consistency across your sessions. And more sustainable capacity for learning, engagement, and resilience over time.

Regulation isn't always built in big moments, but the small ones you can actually reach and come back to.

The practices that stick aren't always the most elaborate. They're the ones that fit into your day, feel accessible when your system needs them most, and become familiar enough that your nervous system knows where to find them.

Deeper trust. Greater regulatory capacity. A nervous system that can finally rest.

What does it actually look like to slow down your intervention with a neurodivergent client? And when behavior shows up in the room, is it sensory, relational, or both?

These are the clinical questions that don't always have easy answers — and Kelly Beins, OTR/L, RYT
and Taylor Hayden, MA, LPC-S, LCMHC, get into all of it. Tune in to all the learnings from this on-demand webinar: https://hubs.la/Q04lfbl_0
