Not only is recovery POSSIBLE, it is PROBABLE! According to SAMHSA, over 74% of people who have ever struggled with substance use have successfully found a path to recovery!

This recovery month, we are celebrating the hope that your incredible recovery journeys offer others who are still struggling. Every recovery pathway is worthy, and every person (no matter where they are on their path) deserves compassion and support.

Overdose continues to affect people from every walk of life. Behind every statistic is a person – someone once loved and valued. And behind every loss is a ripple felt by families, friends, and communities everywhere. There is still hope - overdose is preventable. We know what works. From timely access to care and support, to education, to life-saving interventions, there are proven ways to reduce harm and save lives. Yet too often, these solutions are not fully seen, shared, or embraced.

Today, on , help us to spread the word that overdose is preventable, that people should learn the signs of overdose, and carry life-saving medication like naloxone with them to save a life!

Using the Fletcher Group Economic Calculator, one person in recovery for one year or more yields $75,106 in economic benefits for each year that the person is in recovery. This value of $75,106 in economic benefits per year is calculated to account for direct cost savings (avoided healthcare, productivity and criminal justice costs) as well as reduced premature mortality risk.

The Economic Calculator (developed by Dr. Madison Ashworth and her colleagues at Fletcher Group, Inc) quantifies the economic benefits of recovery. It uses a cost-benefit model that calculates the costs, benefits, net benefits, and return on investment of a recovery program and it a great tool to help recovery homes and other recovery organizations gain the crucially important support of stakeholders, funders, community members and government officials. Return on investment (“ROI”) calculations also contribute to better decisions regarding potential financial outlays.

Thank you Dr. Ashworth for sharing this important tool with our Recovery Housing Accelerator cohort last week! What a resource!
