Hi, I'm Susan Malcik, and I have made necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other jewelry from antique, vintage, and curious contemporary beads for many years. In 1980 my husband and I joined the Peace Corps and moved to The Gambia, West Africa. I fell in love with the people, the food, the culture, and the way women adorned themselves. Very quickly I discovered I had radar for strange and unusual beads. State Department, we lived in Cameroon, India, Barbados, Sénégal, Côte d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Germany, Afghanistan, Sweden, and France, and all the while I spent countless hours in places these treasure could still be found - from the flea markets of Europe to Chor Bazaar, one of the largest flea markets in India (located in Mumbai, chor means thief in Hindi), into the bowels of some of the largest markets in West and East Africa, deep into the Sahara desert to Timbuktu, along the pilgrim's route through Ethiopia and into Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Somaliland, and across the Red Sea to Yemen and Dubai. 3. Check Dedicated Fact-Checking SitesSearch the topic directly on trusted fact-checking platforms to see if they have already debunked or verified it:
Snopes: Best for viral internet rumors, urban legends, and social media claims.
PolitiFact /FactCheck.org: Best for political claims, speeches, and US government statistics.
Reuters Fact Check / AP Verification: Best for breaking international news and viral videos/images.
4. Verify the Source and DateCheck the URL:
Fake news sites often spoof real domains (e.g., using .co
instead of .com).
Look for an "About Us" page:
Genuine news organizations clearly state their ownership,
mission, and editorial standards.
Check the date:
Outdated articles from years ago are often reshared out of
context to make them look like current news.
AI responses may include mistakes. For legal advice, consult a professional.

It uses color-block construction with contrasting body and sleeves from thrift store finds and is inspired by vintage Japanese woodblock prints. The appliquéd art was taken from a tee shirt purchased in Kyoto, Japan on a recent trip.
