Millions of us take calcium and vitamin D. A huge 2026 review has questions.

A big review in The BMJ looked at 69 studies and almost 154,000 adults.

For most older people, calcium and vitamin D pills showed little to no helpful effect on broken bones or falls.

But that is only part of the story. B12 is a real need for many people over 50, and a daily multivitamin showed a small memory boost in one large trial.

We sorted out which supplements have real evidence and which are mostly hope.

Which supplement do you take every day, and why did you start?

2026 Study: GLP-1 Drugs Cut Asthma Flare-Ups by Up to 15%

New research presented at three major medical conferences this year (AAAAI, ERS, and CFA 2026) is changing how doctors think about asthma in people with obesity.

Researchers are now treating "obesity-related asthma" as its own distinct condition — not just regular asthma with some extra weight on top.

One large study found that GLP-1 drugs (the same class used for diabetes and weight loss) were linked to 12–15% fewer asthma flare-ups in adults with obesity who didn't have diabetes.

The surprising part? The benefit was about the same no matter how much weight someone had lost — a hint that these drugs might be calming inflammation directly in the airways, not just working through weight loss.

Separately, researchers found that people with a higher starting weight were less likely to go into remission on some of the newest asthma biologic drugs — suggesting obesity doesn't just raise your asthma risk; it may also affect how well treatment works once you have it.

It's early research, not an approved asthma treatment — but it's a real shift in how obesity and asthma are understood together.

Have you noticed your asthma change along with your weight?

A "Sugar" in Red Meat Is Being Linked to Type 2 Diabetes.

Big headline this week: a sugar-like molecule in beef and lamb, called Neu5Gc, was linked to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes.

Researchers followed about 90,000 adults in France for roughly seven years.

Those with the highest intake of meat-derived Neu5Gc had a 63 percent higher risk than those with the lowest.

But this kind of study can only show a link, not cause and effect. The authors themselves call the results preliminary.

We broke down what the numbers mean, what older research says, and what small steps are backed by the evidence.

Why Your Asthma and Your Weight Might Be More Connected Than You Think

- Obesity increases asthma risk by 30–50% -

New research from three major medical conferences this year is reshaping how doctors think about asthma in people carrying extra weight.

Turns out it's not just "asthma plus some extra pounds" — it may be its own distinct condition, driven partly by chemicals released from fat tissue and partly by physical pressure on the lungs.

And in a surprising twist, GLP-1 weight-loss drugs showed a modest reduction in asthma flare-ups in a major 2026 study — independent of how much weight people actually lost.

Same Meal, Different Time, Very Different Blood Sugar Result

Researchers gave people the exact same dinner — twice.

Once at 6pm, once at 10pm. Same food, same calories, same person.

The late dinner still spiked blood sugar about 18% higher.

This isn't about snacking more at night. It's about timing. We broke down what several studies (and one big open question) say about when you eat dinner.

What time do you usually eat dinner — and has it shifted later over the years?

Is Ozempic quietly costing you muscle? Here's what the research actually says

Doctors debated this on stage at a major diabetes conference this year — and they didn't fully agree.

GLP-1 drugs do cause some muscle loss during weight loss, but the real story is more nuanced (and more useful) than the headlines suggest.

We broke down what's actually known, what's still unclear, and the two simple habits linked to protecting muscle during any weight loss.

Have you thought about muscle loss while losing weight — on a GLP-1 drug or otherwise?

The Diabetes Drug Nobody Expected to Help With Addiction

A massive new study of over 600,000 people found something researchers didn't expect: people taking GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic had a lower risk of developing problems with alcohol, ni****ne, and other substances compared to people on a different diabetes drug.

It's not proof, and it's not an approved use — but it's a genuinely interesting research thread.

We break down what the study actually found (and didn't) in today's article.

Not all "processed food" affects your blood sugar the same way — new study

A new study followed 190 people with type 2 diabetes for two weeks using continuous glucose monitors.

The surprising part: the overall percentage of their diet that was "ultra-processed" didn't predict their blood sugar control — but which specific foods they ate did.

We break down what that actually means for your grocery list.

Do you check ingredient lists, or do you go by "processed vs. not processed" as a category?

Why a Not-Yet-Approved Weight-Loss Drug Is Already Being Given to Patients

A drug that beat surgery-level weight loss in trials is now reaching a small number of patients early.

Eli Lilly is letting a small number of patients try its powerful new obesity drug retatrutide before FDA approval. Here's what the science actually shows, who qualifies, and why buying it online is risky.
