Urban Roots envisions a future of confident, conscious leaders, deeply connected to community, food and the land.
The Urban Roots farms are a refuge for youth ages 14 to 23, where they can escape the constant roar of our always on world and engage in a quieter space. Our youth literally "dig in" during their time with us: in the dirt, into learning leadership skills as they lead volunteers and each other, and into supporting their community. They help us address the short and the long-term impacts of food injustice, meanwhile helping us share fresh, nutrient-dense produce to our food insecure neighbors. During these programs, we work with youth to grow their knowledge and skills to make positive changes in their communities and our food systems in the future.

If you haven't heard already... Tour de Farm is back! And this year, we’re bringing a little friendly competition to the farm.
Join us for Tour de Farm: Rooted Rivalry, Urban Roots’ annual celebration of bringing together our community of supporters, farmers and educators, young leaders, chefs, and friends for an unforgettable evening in support of youth development, farming, and food access.
This year, we’re shaking things up with a chef competition, where our very own youth leaders will have the final say on who takes home the title.
Come enjoy us for an unforgettable evening at Barr Mansion on Wednesday, October 21, featuring delicious food, friendly rivalry, and a celebration of Urban Roots’ young leaders, farms, and community.

Rainmakers make it possible for young people at Urban Roots to show up, grow, lead, and thrive all year long 🌱
This week, we’re inviting YOU to become a monthly donor through our Rainmaker program and there’s never been a better time to join. For every new monthly donor who signs up before May 15, an additional $10 will be unlocked through a special matching opportunity.
Monthly giving creates steady, reliable support and can provide:
🥕 $25 Helps outfit youth leaders w/work wares such as shovels, gloves, & t-shirts
🌻 $100 Provides 4 large produce shares to our food access partners

These are free events and opportunity to connect with youth leaders in our Summer Farm Program, try something they created in the kitchen , and hear about what they're learning on and off the farm!
Enjoy delicious lite bites featuring Urban Roots vegetables prepared by these youth leaders working with some of Austin's best chefs.

We’re excited to share some big news about the future of Urban Roots 🌱
Urban Roots has been selected to receive funding from Travis County, Texas - Government through Raising Travis County, a voter-approved initiative expanding access to after-school and summer programs for youth across Travis County.
This investment will allow us to grow from serving primarily high school youth to creating opportunities for children and teens in grades 2–12 — reaching nearly 300 youth and families through farm- and food-based programs focused on leadership, belonging, and social-emotional growth.
At Urban Roots, our farms are more than growing spaces. They are classrooms where young people build confidence, connection, resilience, and community while growing food for their neighbors.
With this support, we’ll be able to:
🌿 Expand free and low-cost youth programming
🥕 Provide meals, snacks, and transportation
🤝 Strengthen trauma-informed support for youth
🌎 Grow more opportunities for young people to connect with the land, themselves, and their community
This moment reflects years of hard work, partnership, and belief in what young people are capable of when they are given meaningful opportunities to grow.
Thank you to every youth participant, volunteer, donor, partner, staff member, and community supporter who helped make this possible. This is just the beginning 💚
