For a long time, when someone asked what I did, I probably would have said, “I make jewelry.”

It felt simple. Safe. Easy to explain.

But over time, I started noticing that “making jewelry” didn’t quite capture what was happening at my worktable.

I wasn’t just assembling pieces. I was following ideas. I was choosing colors that changed the mood, pairing textures that created contrast, and playing with shape, balance and movement. I was combining stones, glass, metal and unexpected little treasures until they became something that didn’t exist before.

Some pieces came together quickly. Others took time, patience and plenty of rearranging. I learned to trust my eye, listen to my instincts and let the materials guide me. I learned that creativity isn’t always about having a perfect plan. Sometimes it’s about staying curious long enough to discover what wants to emerge.

And somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t simply making jewelry.

I was creating.

I create with my hands, my eye, my instincts and a little piece of myself. Every piece carries a choice, a feeling and a story. It may be wearable, but it also comes from the same place as any other art: imagination, intention and the courage to make something personal and put it into the world.

So I’m adding another word to the list — and this time I’m claiming it.

I’m an artist.
