The majors are buying each other. Devon and Coterra at $25 billion, Shell and ARC at $16 billion, with oil and gas M&A hitting a two-year high.
Family offices and hedge funds are moving in too, and Bank of America's read is that this is a structural shift rather than a commodity trade.
The interesting part is what gets left behind. Assets in the $30 million range stay overlooked because almost nobody is competing for them. That is the band where an independent operator can still win.
