SAIVA (South Asians’ International Volunteer Association) is a non-profit group aimed at promoting well-being, education and friendship through volunteering.
A non-profit organization promoting well-being, education, and friendship through volunteering opportunities and empowers seniors members of South Asian cultural interests. We focus on enabling seniors to participate in the communities where they live either on a temporary or permanent basis. SAIVA aims to empower South Asians to be active participants in the communities in which they live around the world
We were honored to attend the 8th Annual Legacy Luncheon hosted by Central Texas Community Foundation — a room full of nonprofits, donors, and community leaders committed to strengthening Central Texas.
Meaningful community work doesn't happen in isolation. It happens when organizations find each other, build trust, and decide to show up together.

What does it mean to care for our minds while honoring our roots?
Join SAIVA for a meaningful evening centered on women's mental health, dementia awareness, and the strength of community. Through storytelling, honest conversations, and a creative cultural activity, we'll explore how resilience is built through connection, family, and supporting one another across generations.
In many South Asian families, conversations about mental health and dementia are often delayed or overlooked. This evening is a warm, welcoming space to learn, share, reduce stigma, and celebrate caring for both our minds and our loved ones. 💛
The evening includes:
🎬 A short film by Kiran Rai on dementia, followed by a guided discussion on recognizing cognitive decline and why early conversations about brain health matter
📖 Stories Across Generations — elders reflecting on life, resilience, and family
💬 A featured speaker on women's mental health, caregiving, and emotional well-being
🎨 A collaborative community fabric activity to connect, create, and reflect
Together, we can help break the stigma around brain health and strengthen the bonds that connect our community.

What a beautiful afternoon on August 1st at 'We All Belong'! Our Teen Leadership Community Committee partnered with the Austin History Center for a hands-on workshop connecting generations, plus snacks and great conversation. Thank you to everyone who came out, and to our Teen Leaders for organizing it!
🎨 DESIGN OUR NEXT VOLUNTEER SHIRT — AND WEAR YOUR ART FOR YEARS TO COME!
SAIVA just landed a grant to print brand-new volunteer t-shirts... and we want you to design them. 👕✨
Every SAIVA event, every generation, every connection we build — it all starts with community. Now's your chance to put that spirit on a shirt hundreds of volunteers will wear for years.
🏆 The prize: Your design gets printed on the official SAIVA shirt. Our board picks the winner (or opens it to a community vote, time permitting!) before we place the order in mid-August.
⏰ Deadline: August 1 — yes, it's soon, so start sketching today!
How to enter: 1️⃣ Design something that captures belonging, connection, culture & volunteerism 2️⃣ Save as a high-res PNG 3️⃣ Email it to [email protected] (up to 3 designs!)

We’re excited to partner with the Austin History Center for an interactive oral history and documentation workshop on Saturday, August 1—and we’re looking for volunteers to join us!
❓ What is it?
A hands-on workshop for teens and young adults (ages 12–20) to learn the art of oral history, discover why preserving our stories matters, and gain real experience conducting audio interviews.

👥 Who can join?
• Teens & young adults (ages 12–20): Sign up as interviewers and documentarians.

⚠️ Registration is required due to limited seating.
🎁 Recruitment Reward: Invite a friend! If they register and attend the event, you’ll receive one extra volunteer hour as a recruitment reward in recognition of helping us bring in a new volunteer.
