When people learn I have five disabled children, their reactions range from "I don't know how you do it!" to "I'm so sorry."
Neither response lands right. Because the work isn't what they think it is.
I've written about the shift that changed everything for me as a father—moving from grief about who my children "should have been" to championing who they actually are.
It's not about fixing my kids. It's about examining the beliefs I inherited about disability, worth, and what makes life valuable and fulfilling.
If you're navigating this journey too, this one's for you.
The Shift: The Work Isn’t Fixing Your Child, It’s Examining Your Beliefs When people learn that I have five disabled children their natural reaction ranges from the safe and seemingly sympathetic, “I don’t know how you do it!” to the punch in the gut, “I’m so sorry!”

Introducing SBF Studio Coaching!
We’ve spent years helping leaders, builders, parents, creatives, and operators solve complex problems — in systems, in organizations, in life.
And here’s what we kept seeing:
Brilliant, capable humans carrying too much.
Making decisions from depletion instead of clarity.
Holding everyone else’s needs while losing touch with their own.
So we’ve evolved SBF Studio into a personal and professional coaching practice grounded in a simple philosophy:
Space. Boundaries. Forward.
Space to think and breathe again.
Boundaries that protect what matters most.
Forward movement rooted in clarity, not pressure.
This work is for people navigating transition, leadership stretch, identity shifts, burnout, and the quiet question of “Is this still working for me?” — personally or professionally.
Coaching isn’t about fixing you. You’re already whole, capable, and resourceful. It’s about creating the conditions for better decisions, sustainable leadership, and a life that actually fits.
If this resonates, stay close. More coming soon. 🤍
