🖊️ MC Sha-Rock, the “First Lady of Hip-Hop,” joins Bowie State University as an adjunct professor this fall. 🎓

A founding member of the legendary Funky 4 + 1, Sha-Rock helped shape hip-hop culture from its earliest days and made history as part of the first hip-hop group to perform on national television with their 1981 appearance on Saturday Night Live.

She will teach in Bowie State’s Visual Communication & Digital Media Arts (VCDMA) program and has already played a key role in developing the university’s Hip-Hop Studies & Visual Culture minor—the first program of its kind at any HBCU.

Her appointment reflects Bowie State’s commitment to recognizing hip-hop as a vital force in scholarship, artistic expression, historical preservation, and social change.
