Congratulations to U-High alumnus Richard A. Lipsey, Class of 1957, on his new memoir, Looking Back: 85+ Years of Family, Business, LSU, Community, and the Lone Witness to JFK's Autopsy, celebrated at last night's book signing benefiting LSU Oral History!

Richard's Lab School journey began in first grade in 1945, and his love for U-High has never slowed down. He is a member of our Alumni Hall of Distinction, and he co-chaired the capital campaign that raised $6.7 million and transformed our campus. Thank you, Richard, for a lifetime of dedication to ULS and LSU.

Alumni Spotlight: Alexandra Henderson, Class of 2021

At just 22, Alexandra Henderson is already making her mark in the legal field at the Louisiana Supreme Court.

This year, she earned her J.D./D.C.L. from LSU's Paul M. Hebert Law Center as the youngest member of her class. She sat for the Louisiana Bar Exam in July, and in August began serving as a Term Law Clerk to Justice Piper D. Griffin.

Her path to law started in a U-High classroom. Alexandra joined U-High in eighth grade and played volleyball through her sophomore year. Then her World Geography teacher, Mr. Ryan Moore, encouraged her to take Civics with Dr. Cambre. That class changed everything, and she decided to become a lawyer.

She graduated from U-High with enough credits to enter LSU as a sophomore, where she majored in Political Communication through the 3+3 Pre-Law Program. Along the way, she worked in the Louisiana State Senate, first as a Senate Aide and later as Communications Director for Senator Greg Tarver, and interned in communications for Governor John Bel Edwards's administration.

Alexandra credits the teachers and administrators who believed in her, including Anne McConnell, Candy Robillard, Emily Peters, Jennifer Bevill, Principal Frank Rusciano, Dr. Cambre, and Mr. Moore.

"Without the teachers and administrators who invested in me during those years, none of what I have been fortunate enough to accomplish would have been possible."

U-High is still a family affair for Alexandra. Her cousin, Olivia Sterling, is U-High's Class of 2026 valedictorian and now a member of Princeton University's Class of 2030.

The Big 3 in Action!

Today, we welcomed two special guests to ULS to talk with our students about what it means to live out the ULS Big 3: Show Respect, Make Good Choices, and Give Our Best!

Jaime Glas Odom ('06) the founder of Queen of Sparkles led our girls’ presentation, while Jacob Hester, former LSU Tiger and NFL player, led our boys’ presentation. They shared stories and experiences from the worlds of entrepreneurship and athletics to bring the Big 3 to life; encouraging students to think beyond who they want to be someday and focus on who they are becoming today. Assisting in the presentations were some members of our Student Government: Lizze Acosta ('27), Cate Giering ('28), Maddie Robinson ('27), and Caliway Goodson ('28).

Through their stories, our Cubs learned that showing respect, making smart choices, and giving your best every day are habits that extend far beyond the classroom and can help set you up for success wherever life takes you.

A huge thank you to Jaime and Jacob for sharing your experiences, encouragement, and wisdom with our Cubs! We loved seeing our Big 3 in action and welcoming members of the ULS and LSU family back to campus. 💛🖤

Happy Monday, Cubs! We have some exciting news to share, and we couldn't be prouder.

This past summer, Taylor Rising submitted proposals to present at the National Art Educators Association (NAEA) Annual Conference — the guiding body for art educators nationwide, responsible for the National Arts Standards adopted across states and a leading voice in arts education advocacy. NAEA represents around 20,000 professional members, including teachers and professors from across the country.

This week, the NAEA board selected not one, but TWO of Taylor's proposals to be presented at their national conference in New York City in March 2027. It is the first time a U-High educator has been selected to present at NAEA's national conference!

Taylor's humility and dedication to her craft make this achievement even more special. Please join us in celebrating her incredible accomplishment and for representing University Laboratory School so well. 💛🖤

Meaningful Movement in K & 1st Grade!

Our youngest learners are building a strong foundation for movement through locomotor skills and pathways! These skills are an important part of our P.E state standards and help students develop movement patterns they can use in sports and physical activities throughout their lives.
For example, practicing skipping helps students build coordination and develop “fast feet”—skills they can use later in activities like track and field. Pathways help students learn how to move through space, change direction, and find open areas—just like running a route in football! 🏃‍♀️

We’re building the skills today that will help our students move with confidence tomorrow! 💪✨

Big readers, little listeners, and new friendships!

Our 6th graders recently spent time reading children’s books to our kindergarten friends as part of their study of plot structure and narrative writing. They explored stories through the eyes of both a reader and a future author while sharing the joy of reading with some very special little listeners. 📚

Soon, our 6th graders will use what they’ve learned to write and create children’s books of their own. And now, we have new friends to wave to in the hallways of UHS! 📖

Watching our big kids become reading role models for our little ones was pretty special. ✨
