“DRAMA QUEEN”

This painting wears its title well! You can almost feel it strut into a room with its bold colors and unique strokes.

She might add the drama, but she can play well with others if asked too.

AND…. This piece might be petite at 12x12, but being 2.5” deep, she has a powerful punch.

Confession: I’m a recovering box hoarder. 😂

And I’m pretty sure I’m not the only artist with a stash of boxes “just in case.”

But I’ve decided they no longer serve me.

They take up space.
They attract bugs. 🐜
I never seem to have the right size.
And packing large artwork? Don’t even get me started.

So this week, I tried something different.
I shipped two large canvases in less than 30 minutes.

I wrapped each one in glassine, loaded them in my car, and took them to Baton Rouge Packaging & Shipping.

Yes, I paid them to package the artwork—but they ship art all the time, know what they’re doing, and their shipping rates are better than mine.

More importantly, I get my time back and my collectors receive a professionally packaged piece of art.

Sometimes the smartest business decision is knowing what not to do yourself.
And apparently… letting g
o of my boxes is one of them. 😂

Anyone else ready to admit they’re a box hoarder?

When I retired in 2018, I took my first art class as an adult. My teacher was an elderly man who specialized in watercolor and birds. I’ll be forever grateful for his encouragement and knowledge.

I know he’s the reason I still paint birds.

I thought of him a lot today as I continued to struggle with three new pieces. I’ve been procrastinating and dancing around them for several days, not quite sure where to go.

Then today, I heard Claude say:

“Give them eyes and you give them life.”

So that’s exactly what I did.

And just like magic, the block was gone. Suddenly, I could see a direction for all three paintings.

Full disclosure: they came to life because of the paint I used for the eyes. 😂 After painting the eyes, I felt compelled to swish that same brush across the birds.

And there it was.

The PERFECT color for the spoonbills.

Manna from heaven!

Why did I fight it when I knew it was the right thing to do?

IDK. Because I’m human.

Next time you think someone has all their $ together, think again!!! 😂

There’s still lots of work to be done on these guys, but now I have direction.

And sometimes, that’s all you need to keep going.

I’m SO GLAD I decided to do this.

By “this,” I mean setting aside time to properly set up, stage, and photograph my market booth. Because apparently, getting good photos at an actual market is nearly impossible—bad weather, bad lighting, forgetting to take them… you name it. 😂

And I have the best friends on the planet. Beth Pink Moon Therapeutics did all the curating and hanging, and she absolutely NAILED it.

Then came four amazing volunteers from Baton Rouge Magnet High School. They popped up the tent, set up tables, carried art up and down stairs, and documented the whole thing. Honestly, with young adults like these, I’m not worried about the future of humanity. ❤️

After a Friday load up, a rainy Saturday morning market, an early breakdown, hauling everything back to my second-story studio, and drying a LOT of art… I was exhausted.

Having all those extra hands didn’t just lighten the workload—it lifted my spirit too.
