🥬 Taste Testing in the Cafeteria! 🥬
Ms. Rittell’s class had a great time participating in a taste test in the cafeteria! Our cafeteria team prepared Roasted Cabbage and Smothered Cabbage for the students to try.
At Child Nutrition, we love introducing our students to new foods and encouraging them to enjoy a variety of vegetables. Sometimes all it takes is a taste to discover a new favorite! 💚
And guess what? These students LOVED the cabbage! 😋🥬
Because of their great response, we’re excited to add cabbage dishes to our fall menus!
🌱 Why is cabbage a great choice?
🥬 Rich in Vitamin C to support a healthy immune system
💚 A good source of Vitamin K, which supports healthy bones
🌿 Provides fiber to help support healthy digestion
💪 Contains antioxidants that help protect the body’s cells
🍽️ Low in calories and a nutritious addition to meals
We are so proud of our students for being willing to try something new! A healthy habit today can lead to healthy choices for a lifetime. ❤️

What a hot one! ☀️🌱
Thank you to everyone who came out for our garden work day at CIS! We appreciate all the hard work and helping hands that made it possible to get this task completed. 💚
We still have a little work to do, but we’re making great progress! Soon, our students will be able to start planting with Ms. Rittell. 🌻🥕🍅
We’ll keep everyone posted on what’s growing in our gardens. We can’t wait to watch them grow and see what our students plant! 🌱✨

Let's have a great day 🍌with Central Intermediate School CCSS Child Nutrition Central Community School System! This week's Tray of the Week is tangy, colorful and delicious. The tray features: an orange chicken bowl with bite-sized chicken pieces tossed in a sweet-and-tangy citrus glaze with fluffy fried rice, steamed broccoli, an egg roll, fresh banana and cold milk! This tray is a great example of expanding the flavor profile of menu choices while simultaneously sticking to the USDA guidelines for sodium. School lunches must offer five required food components (fruits, vegetables, milk, grains, and meats/meat alternates) in age-appropriate portions. They must also meet federal limits on calories, saturated fat, sodium, and newly introduced restrictions on added sugars. Well done CCSS Child Nutrition Staff! We are proud of you. 🥦 School Nutrition Association of Louisiana
