Woohoo! Our Saturday pumpkin bread making event now has 12 total participants and sign up is now closed. Woo hoo! A huge thank you to my word-of-mouth marketing team!

When you go to a craft swap at your local library and trade yarn you’ll never use for stuff like bingo prizes for your crew and a box of blank small cards for your photo card hobby. … it was a productive day.

We have 5 available spots left for our September 26 cooking activity. If anyone is interested, I will send you the registration link. The LSU-Texas A&M football game is scheduled that evening. Our cooking gig is from 10 am - 12 pm. And as the pumpkin bread loaves bake, we will be having autumn bingo with great prizes. And, the gig is open to teenagers.

On Sunday, October 11, around 12 pm, there is a group volunteering opportunity for anyone interested. Low-key, short-term volunteer gigs are a focus of Uniquely Different. St. Francis Episcopal Church, Denham Springs LA has hosted our Neuro Community Bingo (last May) and will be hosting our September pumpkin bread making event. St. Francis needs help unloading half-a-rig of pumpkins for their annual pumpkin patch. Wagons and carts and humans are needed. Please email the contact listed on the flyer if interested.

St. Francis Episcopal Church, Denham Springs LA's pumpkin patch. I'm the scheduling coordinator for field trips, especially those for special needs groups, this year. Our field trips include group story time, an activity, and the time to explore the pumpkin patch.

What makes our pumpkin patch different? LOW-KEY and HANDS ON. We have no animals or no machinery on site. Our bathrooms are inside with indoor plumbing. Parking is flat/paved and a short distance from the patch. Our grounds are flat. There's no playground equipment. The patch is on our church's lawn. Small church, off a main road. We strive for a low-key but enjoyable experience. Church parish volunteers work the patch and man the activities. Many of them have backgrounds in education and/or special needs. Our rector is a retired elementary school teacher. We can work to tailor a field trip to your needs.
Scheduling a field trip is available and easy to do. However, the patch is open to the community without an appointment. Great for family outings, a picnic, and/or family/group photos. (Plus, we have our famous, homemade pumpkin bread available to purchase).

Today is our founder Laura’s birthday. And tomorrow we celebrate a day off with Labor Day!

It hits different when you're unique! ... Finally, my yarn came in. This weekend I work on a silent auction package. Knitting...LSU colors. Hat, scarf, washcloths (I already finished), etc. Debating whether I should do more. It's all due by 9/10. The auction and its gala is on 9/18. It is a fundraiser for a local Catholic diocese's nonprofit special needs ministry.

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 am - 12 pm, in Denham Springs, Uniquely Different (UD) will team up with St. Francis Episcopal Church to host our first cooking activity event. We will be making mini loaves of pumpkin bread. Mrs. Judy Knecht (19-year veteran and master pumpkin bread baker) will be leading the charge.

The event is free! Monetary donations are optional to help replenish the donated supplies.

Our two sponsors for this event are Temple & Vine Therapy Solutions and St. Francis' ECW (ladies church group). Space is limited to 12 disabled adults. A parent/caregiver is required to accompany each disabled adult. If someone has allergies to pumpkin, flour, buttermilk, and/or cinnamon, this would not be a wise event to attend. Today was very productive. UD had the iron-out meeting for our September event. Our first cooking/baking activity will be on Saturday, September 26, 2026. We will be making pumpkin bread.
