Start with how much chicken your family actually eats and not a random number of chicks!
That one decision helps you plan the feed, freezer space, and processing day before the chicks ever arrive.
If you need help figuring out this number as well as how to accommodate the birds for your space, we cover that inside! 👇🏼

You don’t need to have every part figured out before you order chicks BUT you do need to know what happens at the end of those 7½ weeks!
Processing day comes fast, and having a plan ahead of time makes all the difference.

Processing day feels a whole lot less intimidating when you already know what happens next.
That’s the difference between trying to figure it out in the moment… and following a complete method from setup to chilling and packaging. 🐓—> 🍗
That’s exactly what we teach inside The Farm to Freezer Method™.

If you’ve never experienced processing day before... this is what it looks and sounds like on our farm.
For us, it’s one of the most important days of the year.
It’s not just about processing chickens.
It’s about months of planning, daily chores, and working together as a family finally coming full circle.
This day fills our freezer, reminds us what we’re capable of, and gives us a deep appreciation for every meal that comes from it.
I hope this gives you a small glimpse into what processing day is really like.
Thanks for spending a your time with us. 🐓🫶🏼
Eviscerating the chicken is one step.
Knowing how to move through the entire process safely, efficiently, and in the right order is what makes processing day feel manageable!
Inside The Farm to Freezer Method™, we teach the complete processing workflow. From setup and dispatch to chilling and packaging, so you’re not trying to piece it together on processing day. 🐓

One thing that’s not talked about a bunch for processing chickens is the set up before processing.
For us, that includes washing down our processing tables. They hold stuff and are used for washing our garden veggies.
A few days before processing day we will get them washed down and give them a good wash and scrub away any dirt that’s accumulated on them.
Then the morning of processing we will wash them again with soap and water and then give them a bleach bath so they are extra clean before putting out chickens on them.
We highly recommend doing as much set up as possible before processing day!
For years, we thought more birds = more meat.
It seemed logical.
But over time, we realized we were asking the wrong question.
Instead of asking, “How many birds can we fit in a tractor?”
We started asking, “How can we raise the healthiest, biggest birds possible?”
That one mindset shift changed how we manage our flock.
Sometimes getting better results isn’t about doing more.
It’s about managing better.
That’s one of the principles behind The Farm to Freezer Method™. It’s the system we’ve developed over 13 years of raising and processing meat birds.
