On Thursday, Sept. 17th, the Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation and Coalition had the pleasure of partnering with Northwest Workforce Council and WorkSource to host the Marine Trades Job Fair at the Fisherman's Pavilion. Held right on the water, the event brought together job seekers and employers for a day dedicated to a simple goal: connecting people to careers on the waterfront.

This time last week, our staff got the privilege of going to the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival. It was an incredible weekend out on by the Northwest Maritime Center, and we were so thankful to be a part of it.

The Foundation enjoyed 4 days of the 80th Pacific Coast Shellfish Growers Association conference at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, WA. From dinner at Drayton Harbor Oyster Company to presentations about the Marine, Economic, and Research Institute for Sustainability (MERIS), tour of Ferndale High School Aquaculture CTE Program, to an amazing Fishing Derby amidst Splendid September Sunsets, 300 West Coast Shellfish Growers and Enthusiasts unshellfishly shared Bivalve Love in Blaine! MERIS is on the Move!

Another reminder to come check out the Marine Job Fair tomorrow at the Fisherman's Pavilion from 3:30 to 6. The waterfront is full of companies and industries that want to grow and work with competent and driven people.

Grateful to our stellar graduates of the Buoyant Beginnings Pre-Apprenticeship for Maritime Careers, Serve Washington (Climate Corps Network), Bellingham SeaFeast, and Port of Bellingham. This effort is so important to ensure these previously used nets are out of our landfills and off the bottom of the sea where they can tangle our fish. Let's keep this effort going!
