🤎🤎 If you’re looking for a wonderful dog, who’s been raised with children and other animals, Fudge is the perfect match for you! 🤎 🤎

Fudge was born at the end of November. This little girl comes with a BIG personality! She plays hard, loves even harder, and puts her whole heart into everything she does.

Fudge absolutely adores being with her humans. If you’re sitting down, she wants to be right there with you. If you’re up and moving, she’s ready to join the fun. She’s right in that perfect in-between stage — she loves to play more than anything, but she also soaks up affection and one-on-one time.

She does well with other dogs and would truly thrive with a playful canine companion to match her energy. She’s very interested in cats, so slow introductions and guidance will be important in a home with feline friends. Fudge would also do great in a family with kids who can keep up with her playful spirit.

She is kennel trained and doing well, and she’s currently working on house training. Like any puppy, she’ll need consistency and patience, but she’s eager to learn and grow with her forever family.

If you’re looking for a fun-loving, affectionate, and spirited little sidekick who will always keep life exciting, Fudge is ready to meet you! 🐾

🐾 **PET TIP TUESDAY: What Happens to Your Pets If Something Happens to You?**

It's not fun to think about. But please think about it anyway. We regularly hear some version of:
*“I inherited my family member's elderly dog and can't keep him.”*
*“My mother-in-law passed away and we're trying to rehome her cats.”*
These were loved pets. Their owners probably believed their families would take care of them.

**Believing someone will take your pets is not the same as having a plan.**

Talk to the person you want to care for them. Make sure they actually agree—and have a backup.
Write down your pets' veterinarian, medications, feeding routine, behavior quirks, microchip information, and where their records can be found.
Consider setting aside money for their care and including instructions for them in your estate planning.
And be realistic. Your 3-year-old dog today could be a 15-year-old senior when someone has to honor that promise. Will your chosen person still be willing and able to take them?

Don't assume your children will do it.
Don't assume your best friend will do it.
Don't assume a rescue will have space.

**Ask. Plan. Put it in writing.** Your pets shouldn't lose their person and then immediately lose their home, too. We make plans for our children, our homes, our finances, and everything else we leave behind.

**Our animals deserve a plan, too.** ❤️

🍪 Meet Miss Cookie! 🐾

Cookie is a 2-year-old American Pit Bull Terrier mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart! ❤️

This playful girl LOVES her toys, especially her red squeaky ball. She’s learning to play fetch (although “drop it” is still a work in progress 😂). She absolutely adores her foster sister, Molly, and would love a playful fur sibling to keep her company.

When playtime is over, Cookie loves nothing more than cuddling beside her person on the sofa. She’s a total shadow and wants to be wherever you are. Adopt Cookie and you will NEVER, EVER go to the bathroom alone again! 😂

Cookie has great house manners, is crate trained, and knows “sit” and “wait.” She can be a little nervous around new people and loud noises, so she’ll need a patient family willing to give her time to feel comfortable. Once she trusts you, she is completely devoted. ❤️

Cookie has a strong interest in chasing cats, so we think she’ll be happiest in a cat-free home. She would do best with adults who understand that she may need a little time to warm up.

Cookie is full of joy, sweetness, and love—and she’s ready for a forever family of her own! 🍪❤️🐾

Could Cookie be your new best friend?

🧡🧡🩷🩷 If you’re looking for a sweet puppy who would be great with kids and other furry friends, Coral is the perfect girl for your family! 🧡🧡🩷🩷

Meet Coral, the pup from mama Crystal’s litter of seven who will surprise you the most. Coral is a little bit shy at first, but she quickly becomes very charming!

Mama Crystal was rescued right before she gave birth, and her puppies were born into a loving home on June 20. Their outgoing, loving personalities reflect a charmed life thus far. They are nine weeks old as of August 22.

Breed results for Coral’s sister Sapphire show that these pups are likely a mix of 16 different breeds. The three top breeds are Great Pyrenees (28%), Husky (18%) and Mountain Cur (10%). (See the photos for the complete results.) Coral weighed 9 pounds at eight weeks old, which puts her on track to be about 50-60 lbs. when full grown.

Coral is quiet and unassuming, but very sweet when she warms up to you. Warming up doesn’t take long, but she usually takes a backseat to her more outgoing siblings who fight for all the attention. Belly rubs are the key to Coral’s heart! Coral also adores playing with the dogs in her foster home. She gets along splendidly with everyone, whether it’s a dog, a human or a cat. Coral rides great in the car and doesn’t get carsick. The only thing that has ruffled her feathers is bath time. But Coral has met every other challenge with courage and extra sweetness!

Coral is a special little girl who will bring tremendous joy to her future forever family. Apply today if you have the time and love to give this enchanting little pup!

Darlene will steal your heart, and maybe your man, just because she can 😀 Well, her name's Darlene, not Jolene, but she outshines every other dog around her and will become everyone's favorite girl. Darlene is the happiest, most carefree pup. She loves to play with every dog no matter what size, she doesn't get fussy with other dogs, even when they get fussy with her, and she loves her humans. She's not quite your shadow, but close, and like all great pitties, she loves to be in your lap, sitting on your feet, or snuggled right up next to you.

When Darlene was found in a field off a dirt road last year, she was so emaciated, she couldn't stretch out straight. All that is behind her now, and she is LOVING LIFE!

Darlene loves a car ride and chewing on sticks. She's good in her crate and riding in the car. She needs work on a leash but otherwise she's just about perfect. You'll find yourself absent-mindedly rubbing her soft ears, and she has such soft fur, especially for a pittie.

If you've ever thought about giving a pittie a try, she's a great one to start with. Just remember, she has that pittie enthusiasm and will come in like a wrecking ball!
Darlene is 2 years old, fully vetted including spay and shots, and is heartworm negative. She is ready to steal your man ❤️ https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms

Meet Linus, a teenage pup who wants to put in his application to be your dog’s best friend.

Like his Charlie Brown namesake needs his security blanket, our Linus needs his security dog. He would be absolutely lost without another dog in the home, and so we are searching for a forever home with at least one other dog in it. But the more the merrier for Linus.

Linus is incredibly enamored with other dogs and completely fearless with them, but he can be shy around new people. He enjoys being petted and likes to sit next to you, but he’s not a lap dog. He would always rather cuddle with his doggy friends.

Linus is well mannered and very smart. Any hint that a treat might be coming his way and he sits down before you even give the command. He loves going for his daily walk and is great on a leash. He is fully potty trained and crate trained.

Linus is a mix of Bernese Mountain Dog, various terriers (Staffordshire and Pitbull) and retrievers (Golden and Labrador), as well as some poodle and a few other breeds, according to his breed test. The test predicted his full grown weight could be anywhere from 50 to 80 lbs., but we think he’ll be on the smaller end of that spectrum. He was approximately seven months old as of early October.

Linus is a special boy, and we hope someone will give him a chance to blossom in their home. If you’ve ever thought that your dog needs a best friend, Linus would be the perfect companion. https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms

🐾 **SO… HOW DOES FOSTERING ACTUALLY WORK?**

We say “WE NEED FOSTERS!” a lot. But if you've never fostered, you may have no idea what you're actually signing up for.

Here's the short version:
**You provide the home and the love. We provide the rescue support.** ❤️

Dixie Girl covers your foster dog's approved veterinary care and can provide the supplies you need. We help with photos, bios, adoption promotion, screening potential adopters, and finding the right home.

Have a behavior concern? We have training support.

Need to travel? Give us notice and we'll work with you to arrange temporary coverage whenever possible.

Already have pets? That's okay! We'll help you with appropriate introductions and finding a foster who makes sense for your household.

And no,you don't need a huge house, fenced acreage, or years of rescue experience. You need a safe home, some patience, and a willingness to make one extra dog part of your life for a while.

**How long is “a while”?**

That's the one thing we can't promise. Adoptions are slow right now. Some dogs find homes quickly; others take months. We need fosters who understand that we're committed to finding the *right* home, not just the fastest one.

And yes, **foster-to-adopt is absolutely an option.** 😉

Every time someone opens their home to foster, it creates a space for us to say YES to another dog who needs us.

**You don't have to adopt them all to save them. Sometimes you just have to give them somewhere to land.** 🐾❤️
