The Feast of St. Michael and All Angels
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. - Revelation 12:7-9 KJV
O everlasting God, who hast ordained and constituted the services of Angels and men in a wonderful order: Mercifully grant that, as thy holy Angels alway do thee service in heaven, so by thy appointment they may succour and defend us on earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. - BCP 1662

Lecture tonight. Come for the history, stay for the snacks!
Don't forget!
Tonight, we will host Christina Butler, Provost and Professor at the American College of Building Arts. Join us in the Parish Hall at 7:00 PM as we hear about "Charleston During the British Occupation." Plan to stick around after the lecture for the reception.

I post some iteration of this image periodically to remind people that the notion of sola Scriptura does NOT mean “just-me-my-Bible-and-my-buddy-Jesus.” Scripture must be interpreted. The three ancient creeds and the historic confessions of the church (ie, the Book of Concord for Lutherans), provide guardrails to keep from veering off the bridge.

Cooler mornings make porch time more tolerable. One of the great things about the Lowcountry is that my back porch becomes my home office/oratory/favorite coffee shop (seriously, get a Moka pot) for a portion of the year.
Been a busy few weeks at St. John’s, but good things are happening. Hopefully I can reclaim Friday as my day off again soon. But for today, it’s Matins, phone calls, lesson planning, and sermon writing.

😆
Fellow clergy, what would you add to the apology form?
Through the years I’ve had comments about my beard, my shoe choices, and my sermon illustrations being too serious AND too silly (same sermon, sometimes). I would also add complaints that the laws of physics do not allow me to occupy two spaces at once.
