Charleston County Council is inviting residents to share feedback on the proposed 2026 Transportation Sales Tax referendum at a public hearing tomorrow night.

Want to speak or submit comments? In-person sign-up for speakers begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, and written comments can be emailed to [email protected] by noon.

This hearing follows Council’s first reading of the ordinance and gives residents another chance to weigh in before additional readings move forward. Second reading is expected at the June 25, 2026 Council meeting.

If approved, the program would continue the 2004 half-cent sales tax once current collections end in 2027, supporting roadway improvements, public transit, and Greenbelt investments across Charleston County over the next 25 years.

We’ve received a number of questions about the June 9 primary and the ongoing discussions at the State House regarding congressional redistricting. At this time, the General Assembly is still debating proposed changes and no final decision has been made.

What we can confirm is that the June 9 primary election is still scheduled to take place. If lawmakers ultimately approve new congressional district maps, discussions are underway about the possibility of an additional primary election in August.

We know voters have questions and we will continue sharing updates as more information becomes available.
