🥵 St. Louis is still cooking!

This heat has been brutal, and the fish are feeling it too. If you’re heading out this weekend, your best bet is early morning or later in the evening when the water and air temperatures are a little more forgiving.

Stay hydrated, bring some shade, and don’t forget the sunscreen. 🎣☀️

Hopefully next week brings us some cooler weather and better fishing conditions — because I think we’re all ready for a break from this heat!

Who’s still getting out there this weekend?

🔥🎣 ANOTHER HOT WEEK IN ST. LOUIS — ADJUST YOUR FISHING

The heat isn’t going anywhere just yet, but that doesn’t mean you have to stay home.

When St. Louis temperatures climb, changing when and where you fish can make a big difference.

🌅 GO EARLY
The first few hours after sunrise can be some of your best fishing. Start shallow and take advantage of the cooler water.

🌳 CHASE THE SHADE
Once the sun gets high, work shaded banks, docks, overhanging trees and other cover.

⬇️ THINK DEEPER
Fish may move toward deeper, cooler water during the hottest part of the day. Slow down and work deeper structure.

🌇 TRY THE EVENING BITE
Can't make the morning? Head back out as the sun starts dropping and the water begins cooling.

💧 DON'T FORGET YOURSELF
Bring plenty of water, sunscreen and sun protection. If you're bank fishing, don't underestimate how quickly a few hours in Missouri heat can wear you down.

🎣 ST. LOUIS FISHING TIP: DON’T IGNORE THE SHADE

Late August fishing can get tough once that afternoon heat kicks in. If the bite seems dead, don’t immediately pack it up.

☀️ Bright, hot afternoon?
Look for shade from overhanging trees, docks, bridges, or steeper banks.

🐟 Targeting bass?
Try a Texas-rigged worm, small jig, or soft plastic worked slowly along the shaded edge.

🎣 Bluegill/crappie?
Look for deeper cover or shaded structure and slow down your presentation.

🐱 Catfish?
As evening approaches, start checking shallower water near deeper channels and drop-offs.

And remember: sometimes changing where you're casting matters more than changing what's tied on.
