Red Fish founder Sandi Wisenberg, an award-winner author, experienced editor and university instructor, former director of Northwestern's MA/MFA program, works one on one with writers. ORION'S CALL FOR DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS
Orion is currently open for digital story pitches. These pitches are not tied to a particular theme; rather, they are an open call for story ideas that feel consistent with Orion’s digital identity and will appear exclusively online. The editors are looking for pitches in the following categories: short essays on general topics, food-related pieces, enumerations, conversations, graphic stories, and art portfolios.

Oyster River Pages publishes voices that speak to what it means to be alive in this world. They look for language and stories and images that move us out of ourselves and into other spaces. Though they do not publish exclusively political work, they embrace the intersection of the personal and political, and actively seek to publish those who bring balance and diversity to historical power strata. They accept fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and artwork, and have special categories for "emerging voices." Check out their "what we love" page to learn more about their aesthetic. deadline is May 15.

Submission information:

Submissions should be no more than 7,000 words for prose (fiction, nonfiction), hybrids, up to 6 poems for poetry, or up to 3 pages of visual art. We are interested in submissions from people who are most marginalized by oppressive systems, to include trans, q***r, poverty-born, incarcerated, system-impacted, disabled, neurodivergent, BIPOC, colonized, people living on the frontlines of state violence and climate crisis, and others.

Published writers will receive $100 upon publication.

Please send work as a Word or PDF attachment to [email protected] and indicate the special issue and genre in the subject line (i.e. “DOCUMENTATION: Fiction”).
