Menopause is finally getting federal attention.

Yesterday, Congress held its first-ever hearing focused specifically on menopause.

Today, the FDA is convening experts to examine testosterone use in menopausal women, an area where prescribing has grown even though there is currently no FDA-approved testosterone product specifically for women in the U.S.

That combination says a lot about where menopause care stands right now: interest is growing, treatment is evolving, and there are still major gaps in research, provider education, and access to informed care.

As Dr. Jennifer Kirk explains, yesterday’s hearing doesn’t change menopause care overnight. But it does put issues women have been navigating for years into the national healthcare conversation, let’s keep this up.

Healthy aging doesn’t start at 60.

Midlife is often when important changes in muscle, bone, sleep, metabolic health, hormones, and cognition begin to show up, sometimes before they feel significant.

Not every symptom has the same cause, but this is a valuable window to understand what’s changing and what may deserve a closer look.

The earlier you understand the pattern, the more time you have to act on it.

Can you have PMOS even if your periods are regular? Yes, it’s possible.

PMOS can affect more than your cycle. Insulin resistance, cholesterol, blood pressure, acne, unwanted hair growth, scalp thinning, and other androgen-related changes can all be part of the picture.

Regular periods can be reassuring, but they don’t always tell the full story about hormonal or metabolic health.

If symptoms seem disconnected, it may be worth looking at them together instead of treating each one separately.

PMOS follow-up isn’t only about periods or fertility, it’s also about long-term metabolic and cardiovascular health.

The body rarely gives you symptoms in neat little categories.

Fatigue can overlap with sleep. Digestion can affect how you feel day to day. Stress can show up physically. Metabolic changes can sit alongside nutrient issues.

That overlap is exactly why Dr. Jackie Kotecki, DC, looks at the full picture instead of treating every symptom like a separate problem.

For her, Functional Medicine is about understanding what may be contributing, how those pieces may connect, and what’s actually practical for the person in front of her.

Meet Dr. Jackie Kotecki, DC, Functional Medicine Physician at Aligned Modern Health.

Dr. Kotecki works with adults and children across concerns including gut and digestive health, metabolic health, chronic fatigue, sleep, nutrient deficiencies, and stress resilience.

A particular area of interest in her practice is the connection between the gut, brain, and nervous system, and how those relationships can show up in digestion, energy, sleep, and overall wellbeing.

Her approach starts with understanding what may be contributing to a patient’s concerns and building a plan that feels personal, practical, and realistic for their life.

September can create sleep loss without ever changing your bedtime.

An alarm that moves from 7:15 to 6:15 while bedtime stays at 11:15 is simply one less hour of sleep opportunity.

Then the next day can look different too: lower energy, more hunger, less patience, worse focus, a workout that suddenly feels harder.

Before assuming you need a new fix, check whether your schedule quietly took something away.

Your morning routine starts the night before.

Feeling tired or foggy after summer doesn’t automatically mean you’re deficient in something.

But nutrient status can be one piece worth considering when symptoms persist or risk factors are present.

Dr. Blake Butler, DC, discusses vitamin D, B12, folate, magnesium, and other factors that may come into the conversation depending on the individual.

The important part: symptoms alone can’t tell you whether a nutrient is actually low.

Test when there’s a reason to test. Treat what the full picture supports.
