🦘 Math Kangaroo Asia Camp 2026 Reflection
By Henry Fangguo Teng
Rising Grade 7 • Blacksburg, Virginia, USA 🇺🇸

The Math Kangaroo Asia Camp in Boao, Hainan Island, China was an unforgettable experience!

The competitions were challenging, but they were also a lot of fun because most of them were team-based. One of my favorite events was the Guts Round, where our team competed with a real-time scoreboard. The pressure to get the correct answers was intense, but it also made the competition incredibly exciting. I was proud that our team earned a Top Gold Medal, and I learned so much from collaborating with my teammates.

I also loved the Math Carnival and the interactive workshops. We solved creative logic puzzles, tackled matchstick challenges, and even built a long pipeline to roll a ball into a cup. Every activity encouraged teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving.

The best part of the camp, however, was meeting students from different countries, each with their own unique ways of thinking about mathematics. Although we came from different cultures, we all shared a passion for math, making it easy to connect and learn from one another. I discovered new problem-solving strategies and made friendships that I will always treasure. After busy days of competitions and activities, relaxing together at the pool made the experience even more memorable.

Looking back, I realized that the Math Kangaroo Asia Camp was much more than a math competition. It challenged me, inspired me, and gave me the opportunity to meet talented students from around the world. I hope I will have the chance to participate again in the future.

Thank you to everyone who made this incredible experience possible! 🌏🦘

🌟 A Life-Changing Summer Experience 🌟
We love seeing our students reach new heights!

William Xiao, a Math Kangaroo student, recently attended Wolfram's Summer Research Program (WSRP), and here's what he shared:

"It was by far the best two-and-a-half weeks of my life. I never expected to become so close with such an incredible group of academically talented and friendly people."

Despite having no previous research experience, William worked alongside exceptional mentors and peers to complete an advanced research project that combined game theory and computer science—an extension of one of Stephen Wolfram's own research projects, personally reviewed by him.

"WSRP was an experience that I will look back on fondly for the rest of my life, and I'm enormously grateful to Math Kangaroo for providing me this opportunity."

What inspires us even more is that after returning home, William asked how he could volunteer and give back to the Math Kangaroo community.

Congratulations, William! We are incredibly proud of you and can't wait to see what you accomplish next. 💙🦘

🎓 MK SENIOR SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD 🦘✨
From a 1st-grade competitor to an inspiring mentor—celebrating an incredible journey with Math Kangaroo! 🌟

"I first discovered Math Kangaroo over a decade ago, in first grade. It ended up being my first ever math competition. From that point, I’ve competed in many other math competitions, but Math Kangaroo lured me back year after year, with its fun, unique puzzle-esque problems that forced me to think creatively.

Through Math Kangaroo, I also had the opportunity to attend the Wolfram Summer Research Program, which left a lasting impression on 16-year-old me, as well as TA for younger students in online Math Kangaroo courses. I am so grateful for everything I've learned through the opportunities that Math Kangaroo has generously provided me.

I will be attending Rice University this fall, where I hope to pursue biology and statistics."

We are so proud of your achievements and dedication to giving back to the next generation of problem solvers! Wishing you endless success at Rice University! 🦉💙
