September Safety Month week 4:
As the weather is cooling down, and the leaves are starting to change color, there are a few changes to keep in mind this fall! 🍂🍁
The biggest hazards we find when walking our furry friends tend to be mushrooms, Halloween candy, fall decor, and stiff joints! 🍄🟫🍭🍫🍁🦵
As we approach October, we’re already seeing quite a few of these things appearing, so be aware of the season bringing new things to look out for! 🔎

September safety week 3: Fire Safety 🔥
Fire safety is not only important for you and your human family, but also your furry family! When we care for your pets, we want to make sure that your pets AND your home are safe while you’re away.
We’ve seen active fire hazards, like wax melters, space heaters, dead smoke alarms, overcharging lithium batteries, and more while our pet parents are away from home! 🕯️🥵🚨🔋
Your pets can’t call 911 or open doors in case of a fire, so always double check that the conditions are as safe as possible when you’re away! ⚠️
Take a look below at some fire, electrical, and lithium battery safety tips! 🧯🔌🔋

September week 3: We were feeling very playful this week! 🤪😆 (I think rolling in the grass was trending amongst the pups! 😝)

Car Windows and Dog Car Travel, by Amanda:
(If you haven’t checked out our car safety post from earlier this week, go check it out, because this story is related!)
One reason why it’s important to keep your dogs from sticking their heads out of windows is because they may end up with a similar story to our own Pet Sitter Amanda’s furry friend, Piper 😅 Piper used to LOVE her car rides, picking up her kids from school, and sticking her head out the window. One day when picking Amanda up from high school, she stepped on the window button and closed the window on her own head! 😱 Piper was unharmed, but for about the next 10 years, she was so scarred from what happened she never stuck her head out a car window again! She even had an aversion to car rides after that. 😖If we had known what we know now, we would’ve had her more securely buckled.
There are also plenty of cases where dogs and cats, even ones whose owners never thought they were capable, have jumped out of moving cars! A carrier or harness is always better than nothing. 🚗💨

More for our month of safety: Car safety! 🚗💨
Do you like to travel with your pets, whether that be for a road trip, or a vet checkup? Having your pets secure in your vehicle is just as important as remembering your own seat belt!
A crash-tested crate or harness can minimize injuries in the case of an accident. As cool as your pup looks sitting at the wheel, the safest spot is in the back and strapped in!
Also remember to never give them the opportunity to be able to jump out an open window, or leave them unattended in your vehicle. Stay safe out there! 🚙🚗

Sweet Custard enjoyed his Doggie Day Out to Mockingbird Bar + Garden today. He especially loved chef Patrick’s skirt steak for brunch! 💖🐾🐶
If you’re interested, Custard is available for adoption at Anderson Humane. He’s a sweet 3yo retriever mix. He’s great on walks (and runs!) and is super chill and affectionate.

For National Disaster Preparedness Month, we wanted to start by sharing some checklists for weather emergencies. Most importantly, before emergencies even occur. The best way you can be prepared is having a kit specifically for your pets, with essentials like food, water, carrier/leash, documents, and items to keep them safe and comfortable if you need to travel with them. 💧🥣🦮🐈⬛📄🧸
It’s important to NEVER leave your pet behind in a disaster!
Do you have a pet kit ready? Post yours in the comments! ⚠️
