The Children’s Prairie is exploding with color right now!

A few years ago, the southwest point of Prairie #1 was mostly canary reed grass. Post burn plus seeding, the diversity is incredible!

The perimeter of Winnemac Park is ringed with imperiled ash trees! If they die, it will take decades for replacements to grow as tall.

First day of seed gathering in 2026. Plenty of Canadian Anemone going to seed right now in Winnemac. These seeds (and more!) will be shared with other Chicago Park District Natural Area Stewards who could use a boost to their park’s seed bank.

This week, the Children's Garden by the playground has bush beans (red), kale, beets and leaf lettuce available for picking.

Lettuce that is safer to eat than store-bought right now, no doubt!
