There is more than one way to do middle school.
For families reconsidering what they want the middle school years to look like, the choices do not have to be limited to a conventional school setting or spending the day at home in front of a computer. Adolescents need intellectual challenge, but they also need meaningful work, responsibility, and real participation in community life.

At many schools, adolescence is still shaped by long days of classes, transitions, and seat time. At Meridian Micro Farm, focused academic work leaves room for more.
Students have time for field study, meaningful work, and real-world learning beyond the classroom. They observe, collaborate, take responsibility, and build practical skills as part of the regular rhythm of the week.

Meridian Micro Farm is looking for volunteer community collaborators and guest experts who would enjoy sharing practical skills with adolescents.
This could include sewing, cooking, seasonal skills, or other meaningful areas of expertise. We’re especially interested in people who might enjoy offering a one-time workshop or occasional session that complements our students’ ongoing work in gardening, urban agriculture, and entrepreneurship.
If this sounds like you — or someone you know — we’d love to connect. Send us a message or email us at [email protected]

At many schools, adolescence brings more opportunities to learn in the wider world – special trips, travel, service projects, or other off-campus experiences. At Meridian Micro Farm, that kind of learning isn’t occasional. It’s built into the regular rhythm of the week.
Students learn in community spaces, work with local partners, contribute through service, and take on real responsibilities beyond the classroom.

Our first Summer Stewardship season is complete — and the hoop house is up! 🌱
Throughout the summer, students tended Meridian’s garden beds, prepared the site, helped build the structure, and created educational signs about hoop houses, pollinators, and garden protection.
Made possible through the Cincinnati Office of Environment & Sustainability Seeds of Change Grant, the hoop house will extend our growing season and create new opportunities for hands-on learning, environmental stewardship, and small-scale agricultural entrepreneurship.
