Typography is one of the quietest ways a brand speaks.
Before someone reads a single word, the type has already started communicating.
Is this brand trustworthy?
Premium?
Playful?
Serious?
Approachable?
After years in design, I still believe typography is one of the most powerful — and underrated — tools we have.
Trends change. Tools change.
But the fundamentals of communication remain the same.
Great typography doesn't just make a brand look better.
It helps a brand feel like itself.

FINALLY—Some good news for Creatives!
The companies winning with AI aren't replacing creative people—they're making them more valuable.
One statistic from this article stopped me in my tracks, and I hope it's true.
According to Gartner, 50% of companies that reduced headcount because of AI are expected to rehire people into similar roles by 2027.
To me, that signals something important.
It suggests that many organizations are beginning to realize AI isn't a replacement for experienced creatives—it's a force multiplier. It can accelerate parts of the process, but it still takes people to ask the right questions, recognize the right solution, and make thoughtful creative decisions.
I think that creates a real opportunity.
There may never have been a better time to combine what you've spent years learning with the tools that are shaping where our industry is headed. That is not something you can learn on YouTube, LinkedIn Learning, or in college. This is REAL industry experience that will hopefully shape the next wave of industry trends.
So now is the time to lean into what YOUR experience brings: strategy, creativity, empathy, judgment, color, composition, storytelling, and all the little things that make design resonate with another human being.
At the same time, stay curious.
Every new tool has felt a little intimidating at first. Then it became part of the process.
As creatives, we've always adapted. I think that's part of our grit... our moxie.
We jump into the sandbox and play.
• Get our hands dirty.
• Break something.
• Build something.
• See what happens.
That's how we grow.
This feels no different.
And if you're looking for your next opportunity, don't overlook the people you've worked with before. Reach out to former coworkers, clients, and managers. Some of the best opportunities come from relationships you've already built.
Technology will keep changing.
Curiosity, great ideas, sound judgment, and strong relationships never go out of style.
What have you discovered lately by simply playing in the sandbox?

The Most Common AI Mistakes Creative Teams Make in 2026 Creative teams are embracing AI, but many make costly mistakes. Learn the six greatest AI adoption challenges and how to avoid them.

AI is making creation cheaper.
🧠💰 It's also making judgment more valuable...
A thought that's been rattling around in my head lately...
The easier it becomes to create something, the more valuable it becomes to know what's worth creating.
AI can generate a hundred logos.
A hundred headlines.
A hundred layouts.
A hundred campaign ideas.
In seconds.
But the challenge was never generating options.
The challenge has always been choosing the right one.
The one that fits the audience.
The one that supports the strategy.
The one that communicates the message clearly.
The one that actually solves the problem.
After many years in marketing & design, I've come to believe that ex*****on is only part of the job.
Judgment is the real skill.
Tools change.
Technology changes.
Trends change.
The ability to recognize what works, what doesn't, and why...
That's the part that takes years.
Anybody can make something.
Knowing whether it should be made at all is a different conversation.

In the age of AI, design instinct and experience matter more than ever Here's why human creatives aren't going anywhere.

One of the occupational hazards of being a designer is that you never really stop looking.
After a career in design, I still find myself taking pictures of the strangest things.
A shadow on a wall.
An interesting shape.
The way light hits a building.
An old painted sign.
A texture.
A pattern.
I've always believed creativity has less to do with talent and more to do with attention. Most people are looking at the same world. Creatives just tend to notice different things.
I'm endlessly inspired by light, lines, shape, and shadow, and I've found it nearly impossible to walk past something interesting without stopping to take a picture.
Sometimes inspiration isn't something you find.
It's something you notice.

After many years in design, here's the biggest thing I got wrong.
When I was younger, I thought great branding & design was just about making everything look good. Now I understand that great design is about making people feel something.
People rarely remember the font.
They rarely remember the layout.
They rarely remember the clever headline.
But they remember how a brand made them feel.
Trust.
Excitement.
Confidence.
Belonging.
The older I get, the more I believe design is really an exercise in empathy.
You're trying to understand another human being and create something that resonates with them.
That's not a design problem.
That's a people problem.
And that's what makes it interesting.
Stories and emotional connection consistently outperform facts alone when it comes to memorability, trust, and purchase decisions.

AI may change how we create.
It doesn't change why great ideas matter.
I recently came across this article about AI and graphic design that got me thinking. For all the discussion around whether AI will replace designers, I think we're asking the wrong question. The better question is: How do we combine the speed and capabilities of AI with the creativity, experience, and judgment that people bring to the table?
I've never viewed AI as a threat. I've always viewed it as a tool. The one thing I've noticed is that the output is only as strong as the idea behind it.
A flat idea still feels flat.
A great idea can explode into life.
The designers, marketers, and creatives who thrive won't be the ones fighting AI. They'll be the ones who learn how to use it to amplify their strengths. Because while AI can help us create faster, the thinking behind the work still matters.

Branding is starting to suffer from “same-ification.”
Minimalism has its place. Scalability, flexibility, responsiveness — all important.
But somewhere along the way, many brands started optimizing for safety instead of distinctiveness.
Good branding shouldn’t just feel modern.
It should feel recognizable, memorable, and uniquely connected to the brand behind it.

Why Most Brand Logos Look The Same Nowadays Somewhere between the obsession with minimalism and the pressure to scale globally, brands lost their personalities. Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Burberry,

I’ve mentioned this before, but trends always move in cycles.
Right now we’re seeing a shift away from overly polished, “perfect” creative and back toward work that feels human — handcrafted typography, texture, personality, emotion, imperfections.
Ironically, the more AI-generated content floods the market, the more valuable authentic creative perspective becomes.
Eventually, I think the ultra-clean “AI look” will start feeling repetitive and predictable like every overused trend eventually does.
My guess?
The next evolution won’t be AI or traditional art.
It’ll be creatives figuring out how to fuse human craftsmanship, strategic thinking, and AI tools together in ways that feel emotionally real.
Technology changes.
Human connection doesn’t.
