Lake State Railway No. 6437, the Pere Marquette Railway Heritage Unit during the layover at Holly, Michigan. Soon the elegantly painted diesel will haul the excursion train and Pere Marquette No. 1225 back up to Saginaw.
Originally an SD70M built for the Union Pacific, it later was sold off into short line service. Served briefly on the Indiana Northeastern Railroad before being traded to Lake State Railway along with a twin for a pair of SD40-2s.

The middle of summer seems like a good a time as any to drop the final set of photos from the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway No. 2699 Photo Charter from back in January.

I don’t have any green BN trucks so the railfan is driving a Nickel Plate Road pickup truck.
More action with SD9m Norfolk Southern No. 2358 on a short local freight train
Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 racing west along the old Nickel Plate Road mainline past the long out of service Lorain Ford Plant rail yard which straddles the boarder between Vermilion and Lorain on July 13, 2026.
When I a kid this place was hopping with hundreds of new vehicles being loaded onto auto carrier cars 24/7. Now the northern car lot is used as an impound lot while nature has been reclaiming the tracks.
Parts of the Ford Plant have been turned over to other companies or simply torn down, the passing siding along Lake Erie and Fairlane Yard off the old New York Central Railroad are used for car storage by Norfolk Southern.

Now that Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 is back home in Cheyenne, WY I can focus on the little things in life.
Those little things being little trains, like this model of Nickel Plate Road No. 358 during its Norfolk Southern days. Yes, I know it was actually numbered 57 at the end of its career but you know that N&W numbering system was an easy way to tell what locomotives belonged to which predecessor.
The four beautifully detailed freight cars are all new arrivals from Atlas. The NS caboose is from MTH.
