Last year alone, SOAR distributed more than 80,000 drug checking test strips throughout Ohio, helping people make more informed decisions and reducing overdose risk. If we’re fortunate enough to receive this funding, every dollar will go right back into expanding those lifesaving efforts.

These syringes were cleaned up from an encampment in Ohio by one of The SOAR Initiative’s outreach teams. Every syringe we pick up is one less that a child, neighbor, first responder, or community member could accidentally encounter.

This is why syringe service programs matter.
This is why harm reduction matters.

If stigma didn’t stand in the way, many of these syringes could have been exchanged safely instead of discarded where people live, sleep, and walk. People don’t stop needing sterile supplies because a program isn’t available or because they’re afraid of being judged, arrested, or turned away.

That’s why unsanctioned syringe service programs continue to fill critical gaps. When communities fail to provide accessible, evidence-based services, someone still has to step up to reduce harm for people who use drugs and for the community as a whole.

Harm reduction isn’t just about preventing HIV, hepatitis C, and overdose. It’s also about making neighborhoods safer through proper disposal, building trust, and connecting people to healthcare when they need or want it.

The evidence is clear: stigma doesn’t solve this problem. Compassion, access, and public health do.

People deserve to live. Full stop.🛑

What an incredible day at One Small Act Miami Co OHy, OH’s first Pride celebration! 🌈❤️

We were honored to be a sponsor and spend the day connecting with our community. Together, we distributed:
• 119 naloxone kits
• Hundreds of condoms
• Harm reduction supplies
• Education about the current drug supply in our area

More than anything, what stood out was visibility. For the first time, 300 people gathered in Troy, Ohio, to celebrate Pride openly and proudly. Being part of that moment was something special.

Our hearts are full. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared their stories, asked questions, and reminded us why showing up matters. Every conversation has the potential to save a life, reduce stigma, and build a stronger, more compassionate community.

Thank you, One Small Act, for creating such a welcoming event. We can’t wait to see everyone again next year! 🏳️‍🌈💜
