Heads up, Olentangy Trail users! Per our friends at Central Ohio Greenways, the trail will have two closures during October for improvements.

The area near Olentangy Wetland Park will be closed from Thursday, October 8, to Saturday, October 17, and the area near Tuttle Park will be closed from Thursday, October 22, to Saturday, October 31.

If you've walked or rolled through there, you know these areas are busy and have lots of tree roots, so we're excited for these improvements, despite the temporary inconveniences.

Here's the lineup for Transit Columbus events this month! All events are open to the public and no prior knowledge or experience needed!

In addition to our regular meetings, there are three other events this month:

🚌 Week Without Driving! Take on one or many of our WWD challenges between 10/1-10/6 and then end the week by picking your favorite non-car mode of transit to get to Village Idiot and celebrate a week without driving with the Transit Columbus crew on Tuesday, October 6 at 6:30 PM, following the standing engagement meeting at 6:00 at Northside Library.

🏑 Green Social Housing Office Hours on Monday, October 19, from 5:00-7:00 PM at OneLine in the Short North. Join folks from our Policy Working Group for Green Social Housing office hours where you can ask questions about TC's campaign for Green Social Housing, and learn about how you can help push for it in Columbus!

πŸ“š Check out our Book Club on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:00 PM in Meeting Room 1A at the Columbus Main Library. We'll be discussing the Pulitzer Prize–winning There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America by Brian Goldstone.

In addition to that, we've got our standing meetings - more info below! πŸ‘‡

Our general meeting is a place to learn more about what we’ve been working on, what’s happening in our community, and how it all relates to Transit Columbus’s mission. It’s also an opportunity to connect with fellow TC members!

Our working groups give you the opportunity to collaborate with other Transit Columbus members to make an impact. We have three:
🀝 Engagement - Plan community events, empower others to get involved, partner with aligned local groups, and build relationships.
πŸ“£ Communications - Share information, educate the community, make memes, and use your creativity for a good cause!
πŸ›οΈ Policy - Decide policy priorities, draft feedback, engage with decision makers, and work on campaign strategies.

πŸŽ‰ We had a blast at Park(ing) Day!

Huge shoutout to OSU's Knowlton Society for absolutely blowing it away with their Pearl Alley Cram during Pearl Alley Jam last Saturday!

All weekend, the parklet transformed into something other than a parking spot β€” it was shade on a hot day, shelter from the rain, a place to sit, a place to chat, and a spot to weigh in on community polls. It became a real, living piece of public space and a shining of example taking back space for people!

Knowlton Society put it best:

"Our parklet is a protest and a prototype. It's a protest that acknowledges our city's largest public space, our roads, are not built for people, but for cars, and a direct action to see that change. It's a prototype that demonstrates how everyday people can get together, organize, and execute a project, even if its imperfect and temporary."

Let's keep reclaiming space for people and we'll see you at Park(ing) Day 2027! πŸš—βž‘οΈπŸ§
