Is your Aimpoint ACRO pattern in spec?

The Forward Controls Design OPF-G6, ACRO plate product page has an excellent breakdown of considerations for the ACRO pattern and contains a snippet of the ACRO drawing to show critical areas (Photo 2).

Cuts and plates vary in spec and materials (even at the OEMs), which can create issues of zero shift or the clamp failing completely. Note the Steiner MPS uses the ACRO pattern and it is NOT a different pattern (confirmed by Steiner). BOTH call for STEEL to be used as the plate material. FCD adheres to the ACRO drawing and opted for 17-4 SS, nitride.

For plates to be effective the design must consider the host platform specs in addition to the optic pattern specs. Any deviation from these specs in critical areas creates opportunities for failure. The dovetail and clamp specs are the most critical portions for this pattern. (Photos 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)

The Gen 6 ORS contains a rear locking tab that is uniquely shaped. It isn't just shelf for plates to sit on. FCD recognizes this detail and incorporates a pocket in their Gen 6 plates to engage the tab and prevent plate movement. This feature requires that the plate is indexed at the tab before seating. The lockup is so secure that (without fasteners) my sample did not fall out when turned upside down and shaken. (Photos 6, 7, 8, 9)

Speaking of fasteners, FCD opted to use the M4 holes as it is larger than the 6-32. The selected fasteners are rated for 140K PSI in tensile strength (damn, son). The plate was designed to fully support the M4's 90-degree countersink (recessed flush) VS chasing the lowest deck height. I agree with not sacrificing interface integrity on potentially life-saving equipment. (Photos 10, 11, 12, 13)

The Gen 6 ORS cut depth is higher than direct milled options, so this combo will sit above the slide. The sample Ameriglo GL-429 shown is too low to co-witness. You will need 3XL or higher irons to suit your preferences (2XL for MPS). The FCD product page has an irons compatibility resource available. (Photos 14, 15, 16, 17)

One variation of the many used by operatives from the era. Many photos and write-ups referencing Delta, SF, CIA, FBI, private contractors, etc. are available on the internet. Other brands also had their own varieties. The lore is cool, so look them up if you're interested.

The earlier versions had different features and go as far back as when Hong Kong was still under the British crown, which was referenced in the manufacturer tag.

My example is a later version with "Made in China" tag, so not as cool but still period correct and I prefer the pocket layout.

I'll probably run this with various era inspired gats, which won't be clone correct, so expect the rheeeeee!

Cross-draw, comped & RMR equipped P229, Don Hume leather holster with button snaps? Yes.

I wasn't going to get a Gen 6 after handling initial dealer samples but now I need samples for product demos.

Anyways, the LOP is considerably shorter on the G6. On the G5, I don't run any backstraps (sampling Kiral on some) but change the trigger shoe for ergos as the OEM bothered my finger.

On the G6, I use the Large backstrap but don't feel the need to change the revised OEM shoe. I have the equivalent LOP with this config. I will modify the tip of the shoe, however. G***k decided to include little fangs at the bottom that dig into my finger on depression. It is the reason why I dislike the Agency Arms shoe.

Grip texture is adequate, albeit not as aggressive compared to competing fi****ms. I may or may not apply tape later.

Mag release is extended, so I don't feel the need to swap to the TangoDown / Vickers version like I normally do.

Undercut is nice but I didn't mind the lack of it before either. The grip itself reminds me of the more bulbous Gen 3 large frame non-SF models but applied to standard frames.

Connector is dot and the trigger pull is closer to a G34 or minus connector rolling break with a slight wall. I can stage but there's not a super defined wall. Trigger feels like a G***k variation and my sample was smooth. I didn't get the grit that some have reported. I don't feel a need to change or clean it up.

It's a G***k. 😂

FCD Gen 6 plates in-bound for RMR, ACRO, and DPP patterns, so I can sample current and future optic offerings. FCD uses OEM pattern drawings and adheres to their specs, so I can eliminate the plate being the issue.

Reminder that optic maker products vary in specs even if they are using known patterns, and it is important that you understand what you are getting.

I appreciate Forward Controls Design decision to go 17-4 SS with nitride. The hardness and corrosion resistance is what I'm looking for in defensive use configurations. FCD uses Trijicon's drawings to ensure spec as intended by Trijicon.

It's no wonder why Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics considers FCD's optic plates as the "gold standard". If FCD has a plate available for my application, I'll use it.

I have the Gen 6 varieties and will be covering those later. Currently, RMR and ACRO are available with the DPP pattern coming out soon.

The ARIC and RAP experiment continues.

I was unable to get my 13.9 Mid to function 100% with either the C or C- variant. has the C variant that functioned 100% with 12.5 Car, so I opined that Carbine gas might be the way to go.

The result was a spare parts bin upper build using a Centurion Arms 12.5 Car barrel w/ FSB. I opted to use their legacy CMR cutout handguard and RRA riser for a unique "vibe" and I think it turned out eye-pleasing with the EXPS3-1. The dot only config is growing on me.

The optic centerline is at 3.25" and close to a 1.7" riser config. I cannot use the irons without removing the optic, so I might swap to the XPS variant or a different optic setup later if I care enough.

Also, shout out to and for the superb 3P15 Plan B muzzle device. It's one of my favorites.

Range Report:
Carbine gas did the job and the C- variant was functioning unsuppressed. I did try a few rounds suppressed (standard pressure) but it was definitely gassy and punchy as expected. I have the C variant in currently and will field that next time out to confirm function.

Note that the C and C- variants are not intended to be used suppressed, so I've also reached out to the ARIC engineer to request the M variant as it has additional vents to counter the increased gas.

I'm glad that I got this working and can move on to further experimentation like maybe 300 BO and low pressure cans.

I want this to be successful because this setup is such a vibe paired with the AX556/ADAC lower.

M1X completed
(26X, Baby Roland Special)

The M1X frame is pre-installed with the Gen 4/5 mag release and slide lock lever. It is Gen 3-5 parts compatible and up to the end user to complete the rest. Note that if you're opting for Gen 5, ensure that your slide is cut for the ambi slide stop.

I opted to use Gen 3 slide, internals, and a few upgrades:
- Timney Enhanced Feel Shoe
- KKM barrel and comp
- Vickers/TangoDown Gen 4/5 extended mag release
- Trijicon SRO
- ISMI RSA w/ 17 # spring

The frame is utilizes the same dustcover rail as the slim line series (43X/48), so I applied the Streamlight TLR7-Sub. Holsters are available at on the G***kStore site.

Additional frame colors have been released since mine was acquired (1st run version), so options for everyone.

I haven't decided if I'll opt for a magwell (Gen 5 compatible) or use the GS brass plug. I might use the Booth Grip Anchor like on my 19 and 48 for ergos. Might also swap to the PMM micro comp to reduce footprint further and leave this upper combo on the 26XX project.
