Some impressions from the Château Show

Yesterday, I attended a very interesting exhibition at the Crow Museum of Asian Art and learned quite a lot: “New Deal Texas and the West” is dedicated to the cultural aspect of the political reforms under president Roosevelt post-depression. Artists across the US were commissioned to paint murals, make screen prints and other forms or public art and were paid a liveable wage.
In my opinion, this was an incredible initiative. And, instead of using art as a propaganda tool like Russia or China did (and do), the New Deal gave artists free expression, as demonstrated by the lovely and clearly ho******ic cowboy mural in this photo, by Dallas artist Lloyd L. Goff called “Before the fencing of Delta County” from 1939.
Famous American artists like Jackson Po***ck who had to take on jobs as a janitor benefitted from this program. While this is a small show with mainly prints and reproductions, it’s very valuable to anyone who is interested in US (art) history. Free to visit, as always, at the UTD campus.

You have only until September 30 to see Hunt Slonem’s bunnies and butterflies at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden.
We went to their night event called Twilight Lights which was an exceptional opportunity to have the arboretum (almost) to ourselves. And the sculptures work beautifully in these gardens, especially when the sun sets…

The Meadows Museum did it again. It has brought together an art show as rare and special as they come. Opening August 23, the museum of Spanish art presents 63 paintings from colonial South America, drawn from the remarkable collection of the Thoma Foundation, probably the largest and finest private collection of its kind.
Three centuries of Catholic faith, Marian devotion, and an abundance of gold and silver come together in works spanning the 16th through the 19th centuries. This is a truly unique opportunity to see these treasures in a museum setting.
„Spectacles of Power and Faith: Colonial South American Art from the Thoma Foundation“ remains open through January 24, 2027

I just saw a beautiful and very educational art exhibition on the Statue of Liberty at the Amon Carter Museum and had the perfect excuse to wear my patriotic dress again 🗽
„The Statue of Liberty from Bartholdi to Warhol“ opens Saturday, August 15, is free to visit and the perfect timing to celebrate the semiquincentennial in an artful way.

Today, I attended the unveiling and dedication of a new exhibition: Legacy Dallas, A presentation of Dallas county‘s culture and history. It’s a small but fun permanent exhibit that encompasses all great things Dallas, like the world‘s first frozen margarita machine, the legendary red Pegasus behind me, fashion from the first Neiman Marcus store and much more.
A good place to check out if you’re in the West End district (I miss living there 😩) and free to the public.
