Some people volunteer for a season. Some stay for a few years. And then there are people who become part of the history of an organization.

After 19 years of service to FBSA and the Frisco baseball community, Ed Taylor has officially stepped away from the FBSA Board.

It is difficult to put into words what nearly two decades of volunteer service means—or how many players, coaches, families, umpires and volunteers have been impacted by Ed’s commitment to baseball in Frisco.

During his time with FBSA, Ed played an important role in countless projects and programs that helped shape the organization we know today. He was involved in the completion of the fields at Phillips Park, the research and design of the Bacchus fields, the creation of the Twist and Riders Select programs, the Sunday Double Header League, and bringing Rec State and World Series tournaments to Frisco.

He also started the FBSA umpire program, which has given more than 500 high school students an opportunity to earn their first job while staying connected to the game of baseball.

Those accomplishments are an incredible legacy on their own.

But Ed’s greatest contribution cannot be measured by fields, programs or tournaments.

It can be measured in people.

It’s in the thousands of kids who have played on our fields. The coaches and volunteers who worked alongside him. The young umpires who were given their first opportunity. The families who spent their evenings and weekends at the ballpark. And the friendships and memories created along the way.

Volunteer organizations like FBSA exist because people are willing to give something incredibly valuable—their time. Ed gave an extraordinary amount of his to this organization and to the Frisco community, often sacrificing time with his own family so that other kids could have a place to play the game he loves.

We also know Ed’s decision to serve was deeply personal and inspired by the example of his father and the impact his father made on the lives of others.

Ed hoped to make that same kind of difference.

Ed, you did.

It was only fitting that after 19 years of service, one of Ed’s final moments representing FBSA came on a baseball field, throwing out the first pitch at a Frisco RoughRiders game.

From everyone at Frisco Baseball & Softball Association, and on behalf of the generations of players, parents, coaches, umpires and volunteers whose experiences were made better because you cared:

Thank you for the long nights, the early mornings, the difficult decisions, the countless conversations and the thousands of hours nobody ever saw.

Thank you for believing in youth baseball.

Thank you for believing in FBSA.

And most importantly, thank you for 19 years of serving the kids and families of Frisco.

You said you hoped you left FBSA just a little bit better than you found it.

There is no question that you did.

Your fingerprints will remain on this organization and on baseball and softball in Frisco for many years to come.

Congratulations, Ed—and from your entire FBSA family, thank you for everything.
