Still in awe of the attention to detail that was put into this Pinecrest home.

Check out Christian Santiago Photography for a much fuller picture of the property.

Extensive drone work all over Central Florida was part of the requirement for this cell tower client. There’s always something about putting a camera high up in the air that’s terrifying… as always major shout out to the team that was stuck in a minivan with me for 4 straight days.

Side Quests

I’m not sure why I love it so much that the term “side quests” made its way from the basements of nerds homes everywhere and into the mainstream vernacular. What used to be just a reminder in a little blinking menu that you and your guild members needed win the Battle of Darrowshire in order to gain the Belt of Reasoning to boost the stats on your main Orc Protection Warrior so that you can ultimately kill Kel’Thuzad… now just means “we were on our way to Sephora, but we stopped for fro-yo on the way! Classic side quest”

Also, I guess it could mean that I had a job in Key West a few days before 4th of July and during an off evening I stumbled across their military parade. Classic side quest.

Somehow peering into the past and the future at the same time.

At a certain point I think braids this long begin to become a part of your personality.

I turned 41 earlier this week. Why is 41 different than 40? Sure, technically the day I was born happened one year further in the past, but 40 feels like a big milestone in life. 41 feels like… another year.

Milestones often arrive bringing thoughts of the past, and although 41 is an anticlimactic one, it still has me thinking about the years leading up to it.

At a family reunion a few weeks ago we sat down with a bunch of family on my dad’s side and went through boxes of photos from different relative’s basements and storage facilities. Some had been digitized, some not. Unseen or unremembered photos of me and my cousins when we were small children, photos of my grandparents from 60-70-80 years ago when they were my age and younger, photos inside of houses even that are older.

The intersection of personal family history and scarcity of those images is what has made them feel so valuable. I wonder what happens in the future when generations have unlimited access to all of the images created of them. I love that at my age I can still stumble across a photo of my grandfather when he was younger than I am now and for all the years I spent not feeling like we looked alike, I can now immediately see our similarities in a photo from his childhood.

I do wonder what it will be like for kids born into the age of the iPhone. An age that has allowed their parents to take thousands of images and videos per year from the moment they were born. They and their children and grandchildren will not have to wonder or struggle to remember what they looked like at age 5 at age 7 at age 11 because that one copy of that one photo exists in box in a basement somewhere. Or how they looked at any specific time and date stamp in their entire lives. It’s all documented in 4K for your quick retrieval.

I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing. But I am curious to see how our understanding of having record of EVERYTHING will affect how we see the future as we continue to grow.

In honor of seeing portraits of my parents and grandparents… Ash took a few of me to someday look back at 41 and do my best to not forget how awesome this stretch of life has been.

Being photog #2 on a job means you get to make more in between the scenes.

As many times as we have traveled out west I am still blown away by how novel and different it feels. Maybe being around beaches and palm trees all the time keeps stuff like hoodoos and canyons feeling new over and over again, but regardless this is still nowhere close to our last trip out to that part of the country without a doubt.

Who wants to shoot out there? Maybe we can mix a little work with pleasure.
