Cinema has rarely captured the true weight of artistic awe as perfectly as this single scene from Miloš Forman’s 1984 masterpiece, Amadeus. As the fictionalized Antonio Salieri reads the manuscript of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Gran Partita Serenade (K. 361), he describes an experience that every lover of classical music understands: the moment a piece of music transcends human limitation. Performed by the winds of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner, the Adagio begins with a heartbeat—a simple, pulsing foundation of bassoons and basset horns. What follows is a lesson in compositional restraint. Mozart allows a single oboe note to hang suspended in the air, unwavering, before transferring it to the clarinet. 2:30pm - Rising Stars: Performer Diploma Students in the Music Division of the Meadows School of the Arts, SMU, present Gian Carlo Menotti's "The Telephone" featuring Kathryn Piña, soprano, Rey Winn, baritone, with Hannah St. Romain, SMU staff accompanist, collaborative piano. 24 minutes in English.

Synopsis: The Telephone involves a love triangle - between a man, a woman, and a telephone.
