Yesterday's project for Handy Dandy was a fun challenge. Removing an old doorway threshold that was failing to keep water from getting into the home, and had caused water damage to interior bamboo hardwoods. The hardwood plank immediately behind the threshold had been replaced before, but not well and was below level with the others. The threshold was also so low that you could see the light from outside coming under the door which means water, cold and hot air coming in and energy inefficiency.

Installed a new bamboo plank inside that was at the appropriate level to the other hardwoods and door, and a higher threshold with weather sealing. Sealed all the seams with Flex seal and caulk. Customer was ecstatic at the results, which made all the little challenges on this worth every minute. Photos are in order of before and after.

Homeowner tip: weatherproofing against water Intrusion is VERY IMPORTANT. If you notice any signs of water coming into your home through a doorway or window, take action right away. It will cost you more in the long run if you don't.
