Helping yarnie nerds become successful entrepreneurs since 2018

10/07/2026

Melissa learned to crochet from her grandma and her aunt, and she never once thought it would turn into actual work she gets paid for.

She started out as a knitting tech editor, added crochet, and within about six months she had a crochet editing business that keeps her "swamped" (the good kind, mostly). Designers need someone to check their stitch counts, math and wording before a pattern goes out, and honestly there aren't enough of us.

So Melissa built Learn to Tech Edit Crochet. It's seven weeks of video lessons, real patterns to practice on with answer keys, and the business side too, like invoicing, marketing and landing that first client. You can bring your questions straight to Melissa, and you'll have a really kind Facebook group of editors who've been where you are.

๐—œ๐˜'๐˜€ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ! Learn to Tech Edit Crochet is open for a special cohort session, and this is the biggest change we've made to the course since Melissa Metzbower started teaching it in 2022.

Our past students have given us great feedback and sharp questions over the last 4 years. What we kept seeing is that the people who gave up on becoming a tech editor got stuck in the same four places:

- They struggled with the course material and never set up their workflow
- They didn't know how to set up their business
- They couldn't find clients
- They couldn't turn those clients into repeat business

We don't want to just hand you a course and say "good luck." We want to see you reach your goal. So we rebuilt how the course is delivered.

Learn to Tech Edit Crochet now has its own classroom inside the Tech Editor Hub Community. No FB group to hunt down, no form to fill out to get a question answered, and no learning or building a business alone.

๐Ÿ“ฃ EXCLUSIVE TE HUB COMMUNITY WORKSHOP

Running your editing business shouldnโ€™t mean spending your limited work hours chasing emails, managing spreadsheets, and piecing together your client process.

In this workshop, youโ€™ll learn how to create a simple client management system that helps you smoothly move clients from inquiry through onboarding and project completion while creating opportunities for repeat work. Weโ€™ll identify the essential pieces of a client management system and how they work together to create a consistent, professional client experience without adding unnecessary complexity.

You'll see the system in action using Airtable, a flexible, spreadsheet-style tool (but 100x better than a spreadsheet) that can help you organize client information, projects, onboarding tasks, and follow-ups in one place.

Youโ€™ll leave with a clear starting point for creating a system that means less admin and more time doing the editing work you actually get paid for.

Avoiding generative AI in the creative community is a hot topic at the moment, and very few of us have backgrounds in graphic design. We still want eye-catching images for social media though, so what is the solution?

Jenessa is going to walk through some real-life examples from the community using Canva. These tricks will help you feel more confident in creating your own images and help you avoid using AI.

Jenessa has been a knitwear designer and virtual assistant since 2018. After leaving corporate marketing in 2006, she focused on entrepreneurship and found a passion for helping other artists and creative business owners develop systems that ease their back-office stress so they can put their efforts into creating the art they love.

This workshop is exclusive to our TE Hub Community members, you can join with the link in the comments.

Just One More Thing Designs

Let's talk about true size inclusivity. Many patterns that claim to be size inclusive, and are on lists of "size inclusive" patterns, don't actually respect how bodies change over a size range. To make a pattern a true size-inclusive pattern, we need to understand how clothes work on bodies, understand ease and how to communicate it to our makers, and understand how grading may need to change over a full size range. We also need to temper our responsibilities as design professionals with the responsibilities of makers in the partnership of good fit.

Join us in the TE Hub Community for a live presentation and conversation with dyer, designer, author, and instructor Kim McBrien Evans .
Known for designs that turn abstract ideas into colour-filled hand knit reality while simultaneously fitting and honouring every body, Kim aims to revolutionize sweater fit, sizing, and how diverse bodies are represented in the yarn world.

Kim believes all bodies are good bodies and deserve clothing that fits. She also believes that clothing should be dynamic and exciting to make and to wear. Kim is the author of The Knitterโ€™s Sweater Fitting Bible and co-author of Custom Shawls for Curious and Creative Knitters.

Many of us spend our workdays hunched over our laptops and maybe that seems fine? Or is it? We might not give much thought to ergonomics, and itโ€™s easy to put out of mind. But as we all use computers for a living, our ability to continue typing can make all the difference in whether our livelihood remains within reach.

Conveniently, the typeface Helvetica contains in it a number of handy mnemonics toward workaday ergonomics. And Ashley will be going over not only how one can pick out Helvetica from its sans-serif doppelgรคngers but also how Helveticaโ€™s design throughlines can make many ergonomic guidelines more approachable.

Ashley Bischoff is a copy editor at friendlyediting.com with a knack for taming technical and business writing. Sheโ€™s a heartfelt advocate for plain language, and she relishes any chance to comb corporate-speak into everyday language. Ashley lives in Dallas, and she likes listening to metal and drinking tea.
