The US has finally removed the unilateral sanctions on Eritrea today.

Congratulations to the people and Government of for their steadfastness, resilience, and principled approach that made this development a reality.

The unilateral sanctions imposed on Eritrea by the Biden Administration in 2021 were unwarranted and caused undue damage on Eritrea. Now that they have been removed, we welcome this positive gesture and corrective measures taken by the Trump Administration.

Today’s move by the US should mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Eritrea-US relations, that we envision to be grounded in respect, mutual interests, and the pursuit of a mutually beneficial . 🇪🇷🇺🇸

Bahti Meskerem | September 1, 1961

A day to remember when the journey began.

We honor the courage and sacrifice of those who stood for Eritrea’s freedom, and the generations who carried the struggle forward with unwavering resilience. 🇪🇷

On 1 September 1961, Hamid Idris Awate (ሓምድ እድሪስ ዓዋተ) and a small band of fighters took up arms at Mount Adal. An Eritrean revolutionary and guerrilla commander, he became a lasting symbol of the war for independence.

Eritreans around the world mark 1 September as Bahti Meskerem—the 65th anniversary of that historic beginning.

Good and productive discussion with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman on U.S.-Eritrea bilateral relations. Recognizing the complex and often challenging dynamics across the region, we explored opportunities to strengthen our partnership and expand cooperation on trade, regional economic development, and security. At a time when collective efforts are more important than ever, we underscored the need to work together constructively to address regional conflicts and advance lasting peace, stability, and prosperity in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa.
