Tom over at Thomas Murphy has a good piece on the Denver punk scene, old and new, in the recent issue of Denverse Magazine. Here at Wax Trax Records we know a little about that history and Tom gives us a nice shoutout: ‘All of the early punk bands in the Colorado scene have tracks on the 2009 compilation Rocky Mountain Low: The Colorado Musical Underground of the Late 1970s, including the all-female bands Prophylactics and Guys. Those roots grew to blossoms by the 1980s, with groups like the Rok Tots, Frantix, and Bum Kon forming and inspiring a generation of punk rock. In that decade, the Local Anesthetic label, run by Duane Davis of Wax Trax, helped boost the signal of Denver punk, and the Fluid helped put Denver on the national map during its initial run from 1985 to 1993, exerting a strong, positive, and lasting influence on other musicians from the Mile High City.’
Check out our Wax Trax Newsletter at waxtraxrecords.com to see stories and photos of 1980s glory days of Denver’s early punk, post-punk, goth, industrial and other musics too weird to be classifie.
