We are STILL seeking a safe outdoor home for LA. She needs to have some sort of protection for the elements, (either a cat house, barn, garage, shop, etc.), daily food and water, and vet care as needed. I KNOW she looks cozy indoors, but she’s unfortunately not suited for full-time indoor life. She would be a much happier cat and better companion with outdoor stimulation and space from humans. I have put a LOT of thought and time into this decision, so please don’t send replies guilting me for it. There is a spectrum of socialization for working cats, and she’s somewhere between semi-feral and social, so I like to call her “semi-social”. If you’re able to provide a home for her, I’m happy to answer questions! If you know someone looking for a social outdoor/working cat, please share. We need to find her people before it starts getting cold, and frankly, the sooner we can get her out of her current indoor-only setup, the better! Her full bio is at DenverKittens.org/adoptables

Okay, we are officially looking for a SAFE, outdoor/indoor, working cat/barn home setup for LA. She’d also make a great backyard kitty! After consulting with a behaviorist who also reviewed all of her videos and records, we agree this is the safest, kindest set up for her and her future family. She can be social and friendly on her own terms and also well cared for. Her new home must agree to an acclimation period of 6-8 weeks, necessary for all outdoor cats who move homes as well as provide food, fresh water, and vet care as needed for the remainder of her life. Please share with anyone looking for a semi social working cat, and be sure to read her full bio at DenverKittens.org/adoptables.

P.S. if you’re looking for a cat behaviorist in Denver or virtual, check out Sami Griffin, dog and cat trainer & behavior consultant. They were very thorough and helpful!

UPDATE on our guy Frederick!

Meet Frederick, the Tubby Turkey! 💚

Frederick is an 8-year-old tabby with a very sweet face, gorgeous green eyes, and some serious big-daddy-cat vibes. You can't quite appreciate his size from his photos, but trust us: this boy is BIG. He's currently on a weight-loss journey, and his adopter will need to continue helping him shed those extra pounds. And now we know just how important that journey is for this big guy.

Frederick was recently diagnosed with Medial Humeral Epicondylitis, a condition similar to what humans call "golfer's elbow." It causes pain around the elbow in his front leg and has been causing him to limp. After consulting with multiple veterinarians and clinics, we've started Frederick on monthly pain injections and are continuing his weight-loss plan.

The good news? We have every reason to be hopeful. ❤️ We believe that with continued pain management and getting Frederick back to a healthy weight, his pain and symptoms should be significantly reduced and may potentially resolve entirely. As he gets more comfortable, we also expect to see some changes in his behavior.

Frederick can become overstimulated during petting and sometimes gives a warning nip when he's had enough. We've always suspected that there was more going on than simply having a particular set of boundaries, and now that we know he's dealing with pain, we believe his discomfort is likely contributing to some of his grumpier moments. As his pain improves, we suspect he may become much more tolerant of handling and may no longer get overstimulated the way he does now. Of course, his adopter will still need to pay attention to his cues and give him space while he's healing.

When Frederick is first getting to know someone, he needs time and room to figure them out. But once he trusts you, he becomes a chill, affectionate guy who loves chin scratches, headbutts, and hanging out with his people. And once he REALLY trusts you, you've got yourself a snuggly BFF. He'll let his trusted people pick him up, hold him, and even rub his belly. He's never mean, and even after one of his grumpy moments, he's quick to come back looking for more affection.

Frederick is also extremely food motivated. Perhaps a little too motivated now that he's on a diet. 😂 He loves his meals and may try to convince you that his weight-loss plan is simply a terrible misunderstanding. His adopter will need to stay committed to his diet, but the rescue will help him get started. Frederick will go home with weight-loss food to help his new family continue the plan.

He's done well with the other cat in his foster home and could potentially adjust to a cat-friendly dog with a proper introduction. Because Frederick is currently dealing with pain and needs a family willing to respect his boundaries while he heals, an adult-only home is likely the best fit.

Frederick is looking for a very special family. Someone who understands that he's not at his best right now, but is willing to see the sweet, affectionate cat underneath the discomfort. Someone who will stick with his weight-loss plan, keep up with his pain management, and give him the time and space he needs to feel safe and comfortable.

And the rescue wants to help make that possible.

Frederick's adoption fee is WAIVED, and the rescue will cover the cost of his next two monthly pain injections. He'll also go home with weight-loss food and plan to help his new family get started.

This big guy has been through a lot, and now we're looking for the person who will help him reach the other side of it. Our hope is that with a healthier weight and good pain management, Frederick can finally feel comfortable in his own body and show everyone the loving, snuggly BFF we know is in there. 🐾💚

Frederick isn't looking for a family who expects him to be perfect on day one. He's looking for someone willing to help him feel better, earn his trust, and give him the chance to become the happy, comfortable cat he's meant to be.

Meet Tabatha 💕

If you’re looking for a cat who genuinely wants to be with her people, Tabatha may be your girl. This gorgeous 2-year-old dilute torbie is VERY people motivated and has never met a human she didn’t want to be friends with.

Walk into her room and Tabatha will greet you with purrs, chirps, and happy little circles around your feet. Her purr is so enthusiastic that it almost sounds like she’s humming! And once you sit down, be prepared to become furniture. Tabatha will happily curl up in your lap and make biscuits, air biscuits, and approximately 700 more biscuits. 🐾

Lay down? Even better. Tabatha will happily become your little spoon. She also loves being held while she takes in the view out the window, and when she’s ready for some action, she’s always up for a good wand-toy play session.

Tabatha is a bit of a chatterbox and communicates with lots of adorable chirps. She’s also wonderful with other cats, so she’d be happy to have a feline friend. We don’t know her history with dogs, but given her social personality, she’d likely adjust well to a respectful, cat-friendly dog with proper introductions. We also think she could do well with kids.

Because Tabatha is such a people-loving girl, she’d probably be happiest in a home where her humans aren’t regularly gone for 8+ hours a day. She wants a family who has time to enjoy all of her affection, conversations, cuddles, and enthusiastic biscuit-making.

In short: Tabatha is affectionate, social, playful, vocal, cuddly, and completely committed to being your tiny shadow. If your ideal cat is the kind who wants to be involved in whatever you’re doing, Tabatha is ready to clock in. 💗 Apply at DenverKittens.org/adoptables

In February, we were all set to get a pair of cats from a rescue in Kuwait, Sheeta & Co, but just 2 weeks before, the war in Iran was started and bombing began even in Kuwait. Suddenly their airport was closed and there was no way to get the cats to us. As we tried to reschedule, more bombing would come and go, and it was starting to look impossible. After many failed attempts to reschedule over many months, Sheeta & Co decided the only way to get the kitties to safety was through Saudi Arabia’s airport. Several other Colorado rescues were also waiting on cats, and at the end of August, around 20 finally made their way to Colorado after several days of car and air travel. These two, Kia and Toothless, didn’t have to go far after that, because once they got to their foster home, their fosters decided that was it. They were already home. Both Arabian Maus, these gorgeous sleek kitties hit the jackpot, first in finding a rescue in Kuwait to nurse them back to health as tiny babies and now the opportunity for a safe and loving forever home. The happiest of tails.
