We're counting down the days to FLOCKTOBERFEST 😍🦉 Are you joining??

On October 4th and 5th, join us at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center for our annual fall celebration of community and feathered friends! There will be live owl demonstrations, educational activities, crafts, and more!

This vibrant two-day event brings together nature lovers of all ages for a one-of-a-kind experience filled with awe, education, and feathered fun. Plus, for the event, we are proud to feature Nature's Educators Nature's Educators and their ambassador animals for four live owl demonstrations in the amphitheater at the Denver Audubon Kingery Nature Center.

Each day, join us at 9 and 10AM for a 30-minute family-friendly presentation, followed by an hourlong demonstration at 11 for older kids and adults. Prepare to be amazed by these birds and learn about their behavior and adaptations for survival. Before or after the presentation, you will also be able to explore our Open House offerings at the Nature Center 🍂

TONIGHT: TURN OUT THE LIGHTS FOR BIRDS AT NIGHT 💛💫

Almost 300 million birds are forecasted to be migrating over the United States tonight and we can support them by turning out the lights 💡 Swipe to the last photos for shareables to spread awareness 🥰

CALLING ALL DENVER BIRD-INSPIRED ARTISTS! 🪶

This October, we’re working with Tonantzin Casa de Café in the Santa Fe Arts District to uplift artwork that explores the cultural significance and symbolism of birds. With priority given to Indigenous and Latinx artists, we’re looking for artists whose work explores the many ways birds have held meaning within different cultural contexts, traditions, and personal relationships.

Across cultures and throughout human history, birds have carried meanings far beyond their physical presence in the landscape and ecosystem. They appear in art, mythology, ceremony, literature, and ritual as messengers between worlds, embodiments of freedom and transformation, guides for the soul, representations of power, possibility, love, death, renewal, the divine, and so much more. We have continually turned to birds to express our deepest relationships with Mother Earth, with ourselves, with each other, and to explore what it means to be a participant of this miraculous planet and universe.

We’re so excited to collaborate with Tonantzin to showcase artists whose work carries deep personal, cultural, or ancestral meaning, and to create a space where those relationships with birds can be shared and celebrated.

If you are an artist whose work speaks to this theme, we invite you to submit your art through the submission link in our bio!

All submissions are welcome, with priority given to Indigenous and Latinx artists. Please review the following requirements before submitting:

🦉Artists must be able to hang and take down their own artwork at Tonantzin Casa de Café on the afternoon of October 2 and November 2, respectively.

🦉 Artists must be available for a Third Friday event on October 16 at Tonantzin Casa de Café.

🦉 Artwork must be submitted for consideration by September 18.

🦉 Priority given to Indigenous and Latin American artists.

Feathers In The Wind is a journey and memoir of self-discovery through birding that explores how birding during Dr. Edward Arenson's career as a neuro-oncologist helped him rediscover himself and balance his demanding medical practice with personal fulfillment.

WHO IS THAT?! 😍 Meet the Lewis's Woodpecker!

These gorgeous Birds are quite unique as far as Woodpeckers go. First, they don a diversely colorful plumage, with a pinkish-red face and belly, a gray collar around their neck, and an iridescent green back and head that catch in the light 💫

Second, they forage like a Flycatcher! They will spend long periods of time on an open branch or atop a stump, watching for insects flying near. Once they spot a goodie gliding by, they fly out to catch them in midair!
