Meet La Ventana, the wind capital of the Sea of Cortez. ๐ช๐
We sat down with Ilaria and Emily of bajawing, the first wing-only school in La Ventana, Mexico, to talk about why this stretch of desert coastline has become one of the best places on earth to learn wing foiling.
The secret is the wind: a rare combination of the region's geography and thermal effects creates strong, consistent conditions from November through April. Add calmer waters, a sheltered bay, and a tight-knit wing community, and it's easy to see why so many riders make the trip.
Ilaria and Emily's advice? Don't just book a long weekend; plan for at least 2 weeks. It gives you enough windy days to actually build the skill, instead of getting skunked by the one or two days that don't deliver.

Roadless areas are where we ride, hike, and paddle โ and right now, they're facing the most serious threat in their 25+ year history.
On August 18, USDA moved to fully rescind the Roadless Rule, putting 45 million acres of national forest on the chopping block for new roads, logging, and mining โ permanently, in most cases. Once these places are developed, the clean water, wildlife habitat, and backcountry access they provide don't come back.
The recreation stakes are massive: 25,000+ miles of trail, 10,000+ climbing routes, and nearly 1,000 miles of whitewater are on the line.
The window to stop this is small and closing fast โ the comment period ends September 21. This rule has beaten back attacks before because people showed up: a record 1.6 million comments in 2001, and 625,000+ more last year, the vast majority opposed to repealing it. It needs that again, now.
The public comment period is open now through September 21. This is one of the only real windows to weigh in before the decision is final.
๐ฃ What you can do:
Leave a public comment opposing the rescission before 9/21 (link in bio)
Call or message your representatives and tell them to oppose it. The U.S. Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121.
Alongside The Conservation Alliance and our fellow Business for Public Lands members, TripOutside is standing up for these pristine areas.

๐ตโโ๏ธ Where do you start when looking for new mountain bike trails?
๐ Visit a local bike shop. It's not just about gear; the people behind the counter usually know the hidden-gem trails that everyone else doesn't. Asking in person connects you with the local riding community, can turn up spots you may not find online, and can provide beta on the best trail(s) for the current conditions.
๐ฑ Join local Facebook groups & subreddits. Local riders share conditions, trail updates, and hidden gems in real time. It's a great way to tap into community knowledge before you go.
๐บ๏ธ Use a trail app. TrailForks, AllTrails, MTB Project, and Gaia all let you access offline maps and track your location on the trailโclutch for areas without cell service.
Between local connections and the right apps, finding your next ride has never been easier.

๐ถ You don't need backpacking experience to feel like you're deep in the wilderness! The Boundary Waters might be the easiest way in.
Instead of carrying everything on your back, you load it into a canoe. That one shift changes the whole trip: room for real comfort items you'd never bring backpacking, and at plenty of entry points, you can park and push off with barely any portaging at all. And when there is a portage? About 80% of them are under a quarter mile.
With over 1,000 lakes across 150 miles of wilderness along the Minnesota/Canada border, you get to experience the land and the water both. Glide across glassy lakes one hour, then step onto shore to spot loons, beaver dams, and dense boreal forest the next.
๐ฃ UPDATE: The BWCA is officially back open after the recent fire, and this wilderness needs paddlers now more than ever. Every trip booked helps support the local outfitters and communities that keep Canoe Country thriving.
