Happy National Black Dog Day to Bongo!

Did you know - Statistically speaking, black dogs don’t get adopted as quickly as non-black dogs?

We had high hopes to break that statistic for Bongo, and for a brief period of time, we did! Unfortunately for Bongo, though, he experiences pretty significant resource guarding challenges and requires a space with perfect management. So perfect that it’s not worth the risk (nor is it fair to him) to keep trying to find that needle in a haystack.

Bongo doesn’t just guard the usual food or high value toys. He will find the most ridiculous item and claim it as his. Because of his unpredictability with what he will deem valuable, we have made the decision to keep him safe in our managed care, free of having to make any unnecessary dog decisions. When other places wanted to euthanize him, we offered him sanctuary.

Today we celebrate Bongo and all the other black dogs who are still waiting for their forever homes 🥰

One of our favorite things about Draco is his recall. 9/10 times, he is on it and so fast. That 1/10 is when he thinks there’s a chance he’s going to play with the Tree Tugger. It’s a work in progress on that one, but we don’t hold that against him.. the Tree Tugger is really fun 🤭. Here he is showing his skills today!

We have officially launched our newest T-Shirt campaign! Our last Tshirt campaign (Protect Pitbulls Not Pedophiles) was a big hit and helped to bring in some extra funds to Red String Rescue. Now we can all have a little piece of Croix and help support his future care 🥰 Get yours here > https://www.bonfire.com/courageous-croix/

Well, if our last post was any indication of Croix’s test results, they came back as malignant melanoma 😔

Despite receiving a cancer diagnosis, there was some good news that came with it. His results came back showing full margins, which means the Dr was able to remove all of the cancer within that area. Add that to his other radiographs all being clear, and his labs being within normal ranges, that is about as great of an outcome as we can get and we’ll take that win.

Croix is one tough dog and he’s not going to let this slow him down 🥰

Here he is eyeing a treat & an update on how his leg is healing 🫶🏻

It’s Feel Good Friday and what better way to celebrate the day than with a Feel Good Video of Croix!

We are still waiting on the results of his mass removal test, but he is feeling so, so, SO good!

Here he is showing his seesaw & tire climbing skills.

His leg is healing well and as of the other day, he is off all of his medications. Now we just wait for the call about his test results and cross our paws for all good news!!

Have an amazing day, y’all!

Good morning from Croix!! He said “you have to tell everyone how GREAT I’m feeling!!”

Since having his mass removed and coming off all the loopy meds, Croix has had so much happy, feel-good energy. It’s been amazing seeing him bounce back to the Croix we know 🥹🥰.

Thank you everyone for helping us make this possible for Croix 🙏🏻🫶🏻.

Peep the comments for a funny blooper pic 😅

Now we sleep 😴. Something about seeing him sleeping makes us want to curl up and take a snooze, too, but there’s still plenty of work to do 🥰

And we’re headed ‘home’! Croix did well. He is very much still feeling the effects of the meds and anesthesia and wasn’t quite up for walking himself out the door. Thankfully Brandon is strong and could carry his 73lb chunky butt 🥲🥰.

The Dr said X-rays and labs looked really good (seriously the best news, ever!). She zapped off 20+ little bumps on his body and removed the mass on his leg. We should have pathology results in 1-2 weeks.

We’ll keep a daily eye on his incision and hopefully he can focus on healing from all of this.

Thank you soooo much for all the love and support for our Croix Boy! He sure is one loved fella 💕

Positive vibes for Croix today. He is at FloridaWild. Now we wait for a phone call 🙏🏻

First update: Croix’s X-rays and labs came back good & clear! 🙏🏻🥹🙏🏻. He is now in the process of having the mass removed from his leg. Hearing this news brings us so much relief.

Thank you everyone for all the prayers and support. Without all of you, today wouldn’t have been possible 🫶🏻
